The Closer Tapped Out S05E06 (TNT)

The Closer is an American police drama starring Kyra Sedgwick, who plays a Deputy Chief of Police at the LAPD. Sedgwick plays Brenda Leigh Johnson, an ex-CIA interrogator. She is a southern belle and her easy going charm has surprised more than one criminal during an interrogation. She always gets the bad guys. She was put in charge of the Priority Homicide division of the LAPD.

She’s had to deal with conflict from Commander Taylor, chief of detectives, since she was promoted over him from the outside to her current position. This conflict has been resolved in season 4. Commander Taylor is now one of her staunchest allies. Her team are seasoned veterans, some close to retiring like Lt Provenza, others like Sgt Gabriel just a few years into their police careers. Daniels was promoted off the squad and this season, there is a new conflict with Captain Sharon Raydor (Mary McDonnell), who investigates any civilian deaths in officer involved shootings.

Her personal life wasn’t always as stable as it is right now. She’s currently engaged to an FBI Agent named Fritz Howard, who helps her from time to time on some cases. They’ve just sold Brenda’s bungalow and moved into a temporary space as they search for a new house to buy.

Brenda is a severe workaholic, to the sacrifice of her personal relationships. She tends to micro-manage her investigations and take a close look at details. She loves junk food and sweets but is currently trying to lay off them. She usually hides all types of junk food in drawers, purses, and other places. She is also known to be a “bit of a slob”, commenting that she does not often get around to housework every day in one episode, and in another, during a small argument between her and Fritz over where her mail was, Fritz comments that “if she looked at her mail daily instead of once a week, she would know where they keep it”.

From wiki’s page.

The Closer is one of the best police dramas on television right now and is in its fourth season on TNT. Each summer sees 13 episodes. A feature length episode is shown over the holidays. For this season, the episode format has changed. The show has returned for five more episodes in 2009 and season 5 started out a few weeks ago.

I’ve been a bit lax about posting reviews, but rest assured that all Closer episodes were watched and reviewed. They just haven’t been posted. They will find their way onto this site.

A pick-up artist with a cable network show is found dead. He made a lot of women angry and the Chief has to investigate why he is dead. The reason is a lot simpler than you’d expect from someone who pissed off a bunch of ladies.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Provenza and Flynn are having breakfast. Provenza tells Flynn that he’s almost off his blood pressure medication thanks to Lauren. Pope is doing some ride-alongs. Right outside the place, there are a lot of cop cars and emergency responders. Pope checks up on what is happening.

He meets Detective Tracy from Central. Tracy just called the Major Case Squad 3 minutes ago. A woman was seen fleeing the scene in a BMW. She also dropped a gun. A screaming woman appears. Tracy says that he will log in the evidence for them.

She even screams when Chief Johnson interviews her. His real name was Mark Bernstein. His stage name is Intrigue. When she learns that she is a suspect she starts screaming more. Sanchez knows Intrigue. It’s a system for picking up women. Sanchez implies that it works pretty well.

Pope checks up on Tracy and it turns out that he wasn’t a detective. The evidence is gone. They handed it over to Dick Tracy.

At Intrigue’s place, they learn that his place has already been cleaned out. He left the cards that he picked up from Provenza. Tracy left with three boxes filled with stuff. Tracy did the notification. He posed as Chief Pope. They had a TV show planned. His brother Ken is pretty messed up.

Tao tells the squad that Tracy is monitoring the LAPD website in which Pope is prominently featured. They have some extra information that they post on the online casefile. If Tracy is monitoring it, he will be at the location. They nab him quickly enough.

Screaming woman is the assistant of the TV producer’s assistant. She drives a black BMW.

Fritzi arrives. He says that three years ago, the FBI started investigating them. Part of the deal of getting on TV was that they would stop their iffy release forms from girls. One of them was underage and one of them was drunk when Intrigue did his stuff.

Tracy is called Bear. He scored highly on the LAPD entrance exams but wasn’t admitted because of psychological reasons. Chief Johnson has to indulge him to get what Bear knows. He’s completely bonkers. Some form of disassociative disorder. He keeps screaming. It turns out that the killer knew the victims well.

The footage of the show that Intrigue was working on is pretty damming. Chief Johnson is surprised that he only got shot once. Tracy won’t tell them the password to the computer. Tracy added the password.

Gabriel got the 8 women from the 8 episodes of the TV show. Chief Johnson has a plan for Tracy. Pope plays a role. Bear gives up the password. They find some evidence.

Jill, the TV producer, is on the scene. Jill IDs her assistant Marie. She says that her company leases a fleet of BMWs. They ask Jill to calm Marie down. A witness IDs Jill as the woman who was seen fleeing the scene. It appears that Jill killed Intrigue to save her career. The focus groups loathed him. On camera, he looked like a predator. He screwed her because he was sure that his web-business would make a lot of money while she would be looking for a job as a PA.

Johnson has Bear writes out a final report. She will use it as his confession to save Pope’s job. She shows the pilot to the DA, who immediately agrees to a plea for life deal for Jill. This means that Tracy won’t have to testify and it won’t go to court, leaving Pope blameless. Brenda tells Will that they lie to him all of the time, this is what unites all of the divisions that work under him. He has to submit Provenza’s and Flynn’ fictionalized account on what exactly happened with Tracy.
