It’s fitting that this show will premiere on Fox, since this was the network of the X-Files. Fringe has got much in common with the X-Files, yet it is different. Fringe is the latest show of wunderkind J.J. Abrams. Like most new shows, the pilot was leaked on the internet a few weeks ago.

Just like a few other shows, like True Blood, I’m happily surprised by Fringe. The production values are great and I’m enjoying it a lot. A lot of money has been pumped into this show, and it just looks fabulous. The protagonists are also an interesting bunch. There isn’t much more that we learn of the Pattern, but Massive Dynamics is most definitely deeply connected with those events, even though they aren’t sharing their information with Agent Dunham.

I think that this show takes a few common elements from Alias, especially for all the things that concerned the mystic scholar Milo Rambaldi. The same kind of esoteric science is involved in this show. It’s done very well. I’d actually like to see this type of mystic science have more of an impact on the show. It would suit the show very well. A bit of the supernatural wouldn’t be bad either.

In the season finale, Olivia went to the other universe to find William Bell. During this episode, we finally get the skinny on what was said during this meeting. The code for this week is MEMORY. Dunham starts remembering her time in the other universe thanks to some worms and a bell.

Meanwhile, the hunt of the shape-shifters from another universe is on. We learn the plans of their leaders. They want the two universes to collide so that theirs remains and ours is destroyed. Sounds pretty bad. Oliva Dunham is a guardian, she was tested with countless other children so that she could be the one to close the gate between worlds.

The shape-shifters are looking for a head stored in a cryogenic facility. This is the key to opening the gate even further. Meanwhile, Fake Francis makes his play, but thankfully, Dunham is forewarned.

Fringe is one of the best shows on TV right now. It’s getting better and better, and I like it maybe a bit more than X-Files. Why? There are less filler episodes. Most episode deal with the mythology of the show.

Some cryogenically frozen heads are being transported. They are ambushed. He had inside help. The shooter had some inside help. One of the security guards fills him with bullets, but he is still moving.

Walter wants to stimulate Olivia’s memories using some worms. The Fringe Division team is called to Elias Cryogenics. This is the 3rd cryogenic facility burglarized this week. The perp’s body is bleeding silver. Walter thinks that it’s mercury. Fake Francis is there. He finds the device the shape shifter used to change shapes.

The burglar is destroying the heads. Fake Francis comes to see him. He tells Fake Francis that he has been in this body too long. He needs to go home to get fitted with another conversion device. They are looking for a specific head. Fake Francis tells him that Dunham might know where the head is hidden. He tells Fake Francis to do whatever he needs to so that Dunham remembers.

Broyles is considering giving Dunham a protective detail. The last time that one of these devices showed up, someone was trying to kill her. Dunham wants Peter to look at the device. It’s undamaged.

Walter thinks that the perp is a mechano-organic hybrid of some kind. He’s not human. Peter finds out that the device is streaming lots of data. Walter says that the shape shifter’s blood is 47% mercury. This means that the body that they found the last time was normal. This means that the other shape shifter is still after her and alive. Walter says that he might know a way to find him.

The girl that was able to identify the shape shifter might still be able to do so. Dunham informs Fake Francis, who is ingesting copious amounts of mercury. It’s helping to stabilize him.

Dunham goes to Massive Dynamics. Dunham has started to remember parts from the other universe. Sharpe says each device is tuned to each shape shifter. They will try to download what’s on it. Brandon is an enthusiastic researcher and says that he will send this to her ASAP.

Walter and Peter visit Rebecca. Walter is very self-conscious about meeting Rebecca again. She is very affectionate and sensual. She’s all for trying the experiment again. Her ability has faded a while. She’s very enthusiastic about trying the drugs. I have a sense of déjà vu. I have seen this scene before.

Brandon is putting together the current face of the shape shifter. When they sound the bell to trigger the session, Olivia collapses and recalls her meeting with William Bell. He says that people are trying to prevent their meeting. He knew her as a girl. She is disoriented from the time-slips. She is out of sink with this universe. She sees Bell using a ventilator of some kind. He tells her that a war is coming. They had to prepare a guardian, someone to watch the gate, the gate between this world and Olivia’s. Bell cannot go back there. There aren’t many people who have crossed over safely from her universe. However, on this side, they have designed hybrids, part organic tissue, part machine, that can do things humans can’t. They call them the First Wave. They can easily cross over.

He says that a storm is coming. When it is over, there will be little left of her world. The shape shifters are looking for someone, someone who can open the gates between universes. If they find him, there will be no stopping them. She must find him first. She is the guardian. Of all of the children, she was the strongest. He draws a diagram on a piece of paper. It’s a symbol. It’s hidden on their leader. Bell tells her that they are out of time. He tells her Latin saying. He says to tell it to Peter; he will know what it means. Bell tells her that he pulled her out of a moving car. Momentum can be deferred, but not annulled. Olivia wakes up after she is injected with adrenaline. She says that she needs to talk with Sharpe.

Rebecca is about to leave. Walter asks Peter’s permission to go with her and have some wild sex.

Fake Francis sees that MD is making a image of the killer.

Dunham shows the symbol to Sharpe. She hasn’t seen it before. The symbol would be hidden on the leader’s head. Dunham tells her what Bell told her. She is shocked. The phrase he used. If the two universes collided, if the doorway was opened, only one universe would remain. While they are talking, Olivia sees Laston-Hennings Cryonics. The leader is hidden there.

Fake Francis tells Dunham that Nina is the shape shifter. When she is outside, she tells Fake Francis where the head is hidden. She then sees that the render is complete and that Fake Francis is the shape shifter. He gives her an evil smile and throws her around. He tells his associates where to look. She has to shoot him four times to kill him.

Broyles tells Dunham that Laston-Hennings was hit 15 minutes before the protective detail arrived. They took everything. They got what they were looking for.

They got the head and confirm that it’s the right one. They put it near a body and it reattaches itself to it. We see circuitry going from the body to the head. It’s a hybrid.
