It’s fitting that this show will premiere on Fox, since this was the network of the X-Files. Fringe has got much in common with the X-Files, yet it is different. Fringe is the latest show of wunderkind J.J. Abrams. Like most new shows, the pilot was leaked on the internet a few weeks ago.

Just like a few other shows, like True Blood, I’m happily surprised by Fringe. The production values are great and I’m enjoying it a lot. A lot of money has been pumped into this show, and it just looks fabulous. The protagonists are also an interesting bunch. There isn’t much more that we learn of the Pattern, but Massive Dynamics is most definitely deeply connected with those events, even though they aren’t sharing their information with Agent Dunham.

I think that this show takes a few common elements from Alias, especially for all the things that concerned the mystic scholar Milo Rambaldi. The same kind of esoteric science is involved in this show. It’s done very well. I’d actually like to see this type of mystic science have more of an impact on the show. It would suit the show very well. A bit of the supernatural wouldn’t be bad either.

The code for this week is HIDDEN. This episode is about parasitic worms that are being bred into humans. Walter discovers some strange properties of these gigantic worms, which have been bio engineered.

Fringe is one of the best shows on TV right now. It’s getting better and better, and I like it maybe a bit more than X-Files. Why? There are less filler episodes. Most episode deal with the mythology of the show.

Some Asian dude is freaking out. He’s trying to find Ping-on St. He’s speaking Cantonese. He arrives at his destination. He asks the old man if anyone else made it. The old man takes some rudimentary surgical tools and puts on some gloves. Something with tentacles comes squirming out of him.

Dunham is waiting for the Bishops. Walter is trying to be more independent. He’s acting strange. A Chinese merchant ship was caught in the harbor. People were trying to swim ashore. There are some strange parasites lodged in their mouths. They find a woman who’s still alive.

The old man continues to salvage the parasites from survivors.

The woman wasn’t infected. She came for work. The men on the boat gave them medicine for sea sickness. She didn’t take it. She wants to find her daughter and husband. A crewman told them that they were on another boat.

Walter says that the people were used as human incubators, to allow the parasites to grow and gestate in them.

The Coast Guard found someone who the sunken ship was registered to. My guess is that it’s connected to the old man, whose busy harvesting some organ from these parasitic worms.

The found the man. He’s a Triad member. Peter doesn’t think that he will talk. Peter thinks that someone found a way of harvesting something from the worms. Some parasites have been known for secreting opiates naturally. The man has a razor blade and cuts his throat.

In the lab, Walter does something stupid and gets bitten by the worm. Peter identified the Sun Chen Triad as part of the smuggling effort. They found a wire transfer that leads them to Beacon Hill. The mom invested $500K into a Beijing construction company. Peter notices a lot of cleaning supplies all over the luxurious house. The windows are hermetically sealed.

Walter thinks that the worm is some kind of medicine. The parasites they found were bio engineered from small parasitic worms named hookworms. It’s an immune boosting enzyme that is found in the parasite’s lymph gland.

On the boat of Mai Lin’s family, her daughter notices the parasite in someone’s stomach.

Peter thinks that Mrs. Jarvis is seriously sick. They go question the son. The treatments are for him, not the mother. Matt is treated once a month by Dr. Chen. The drugs get directly inserted into his spleen, or something like that.

Astrid followed Walter to his herbalist quest. They make friends. Walter finds Chen and tips him off unknowingly. Walter is kidnapped by the Triads. Farnsworth doesn’t even suspect it, she thinks that Walter ditched her. She tells Peter. Astrid comes home and finds the Triads at the lab.

Walter is trying to call Peter from a pay phone, but he isn’t having much luck. He’s run out of change. He can’t remember the number and can’t get on the bus.

Peter and Olivia find Astrid on the floor of the lab. The worm is gone. They must have followed her from Chinatown. Peter goes to pick him up.

Dunham questions Jarvis. She gives up some info.

An old Chinese woman took pity on Walter and took him in. He confesses what he told one of the herbalists. He told him about his 4-foot long hookworm. Peter tells Walter that because of what he told the herbalist, Astrid got assaulted by the Triads.

The FBI is on the boat on which Mai Lin’s family is supposed to be. The ship is empty. They are too late.

The Bishops arrive at the herbalist. Peter warns Olivia. He sees the captives arriving. He tells Walter to remain in the car. Peter tries to save some of them but gets caught. Peter is about to get infected by one of the larvae. The FBI arrives, but he’s already got the worm in his mouth. Thankfully, Peter didn’t swallow it. He spits it out.

Instead of remaining where he was supposed to be, Walter goes to the lab. He sees what happened because of him. Bishop tells Peter that he installed a tracking device in his neck so that Peter can find him no matter what.
