After having spent some time on the 2010 Pinarello Dogma, it’s time to spend some time on the new 2010 Colnago EPS. The big difference between these top of the line frames is that the Colnago is a lugged carbon fiber frame, meaning that it employs a lugged design in its frame construction.
Colnago also makes carbon monocoque frames, but I have to admire the beauty and technology that went into the design of this lugged frame. In my mind, for a long time, monocoque was the only way to go. That is until some of my associates ordered and received a 2009 EPS.
It is a beauty. One of the things that won me over for 2010 were the new color schemes. The basic red and also the blue scheme looked fabulous. These frames come with matching seat posts and available matching handlebars.
Just like TIME, Colnago hand-makes these frames in Europe. One of the reasons this bike jumped to the top of my list was because it’s not as “loud” as the TIME RXR Ulteam, my other top pick. If you love blazing decals, then you’ll love the TIME. Also, the EPS is cheaper to buy in Taiwan than the RXR.
As to the ride quality, the TIME is a great all-rounder. However, the EPS is going to be faster in descents and ascents. It’s a bit more nimble and stiff. Ultimately, this comes down to a personal preference. Whether it’s the Pinarello Dogma, the Colnago EPS, or the TIME RXR Ulteam, you’re getting a top end bike.
