I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.
Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.
So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.
Warning: spoilers ahead
The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.
Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.
ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

A serial killer goes after Beckett because she is Nikki Heat to him. Castle feels guilt and the episode finishes with a bang. The cliffhanger didn’t last long as Beckett is fine and they go after the killer.

Beckett’s apartment exploded last time. Castle comes charging in. He finds her naked in the bathtub. She survived and she’s fine. Jordan tells Beckett that she’s off the case. Beckett doesn’t accept this. She has to do as she is told by Shaw.
Beckett tells Shaw that Castle is the one who warned her about the blast. Castle tells them that Ben Conrad was a leftie and he supposedly shot himself with his right hand. That didn’t make sense, unless it was the killer who shot him and then placed the gun in his hand. The squad went in right away, so he couldn’t have escaped, which means that he was hiding out. Beckett quickly finds it. They find a disguise in the hiding place. The explosive was the same as in Conrad’s apartment.
Beckett gets anther call from the murderer. They hear shots. There is another body. He must have been watching at the crime scenes. He must have been dressed as a cop.
They will try to intersect Ben Conrad’s life with the other victims. They might find a connection. The idea is that Ben might have been camping out at a coffee shop emailing resumes after he lost his job. The killer might have struck up a conversation with him because Conrad was a Knicks fan. They find a bar where Conrad was approached by the unsub. They trace the cab.
Jordan comes back with a full profile for the unsub. They run the names from the magazine subscription, as well as the high-IQ societies. They find him. He’s living under a stolen identity.
The unsub is pretty obsessed with Nikki Heat and Beckett. The unsub is writing about his murders. He’s done this before with some prostitutes in another town. They decide to wait for him. He shows up, but is on the roof and looks like a cop. After the feds leave, Beckett spots the unsub going down another fire escape. He jumped buildings. Beckett runs after him. He goes into the subway. He manages to hop onto a train and get away. They run his face and find out that his name is Scott Dunn. Shaw tells Beckett that she’s out. She didn’t listen to her when she was told to stay in the van. Beckett is told to go home and stay with Castle.
Dunn decides to go after Shaw. He abducts her.
Kate decides to cook for Castle and Alex. Martha drops by. Beckett gets a call. Agent Avery says that Shaw has gone missing. They find the car. They find tire treads as well as a blood trail. Dunn calls her to taunt her. He wants her to come to Battery Park at midnight. He sends her a video through email. They analyze the video. They find some sounds and subway sounds from an elevated train. They trace his location and send in SWAT. Castle says that Dunn led them here.
Castle says that he doesn’t think that Dunn is up there. Dunn lured them here. He’s nearby watching it all unforld. Then he’d blow the building. He’d be close by, looking at the scene. Beckett takes him along and they check out his theory. This is because of the way that Castle would write it. Beckett hands Castle a gun.
Beckett goes in. She bluffs that the feds are no longer on the other side. It works and Dunn makes a runner. Beckett goes after him. Castle frees Shaw and goes to give Beckett some backup. He shoots Dunn’s gun off when he’s about to shoot Beckett. Shaw is there with a gun and they all take him in.
