I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.
Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.
So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.
Warning: spoilers ahead
The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.
Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.
ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

Late night hosts are pretty cut throat in order to get what they want. Also, Castle sleeps with a hot actress. Beckett is jealous.

Castle is on a late night talk show with a hot actress. Everyone is watching. One of the talk show hosts says that they want him dead. He confides this to Castle. The next day, Martha tells him that he is dead. Beckett says that there was no foul play. He asks Lanie to take a closer look. She discovers that he was on powerful anti-depressants. They interact with fermented foods. He had balsamic vinegar in his stomach. It looks like he was slipped some balsamic vinegar in his cranberry juice, this is what killed him. His Bugatti Veyron is missing. They talk to his producer. They say that he was slightly paranoid. Mann had six ex-wives. One of them has a record. The doorman at her building says that Mann was there last night. They question her. She says that Barbara, his 1st ex-wife, also has an apartment in her building. Bobby was the co-owner of the building. The 1st ex-wife says that he was there and acting strange. He left at quarter past one. They need to find out what he did afterwards. He was killed between 1:30AM and 4:30AM.
The hot actress calls Castle. He has sex with her. They trace Mann via some tweets. Ellie calls him again to hang out. He went to see Mickey Reed, the host of the talk show after his own. There was a loud argument. They go see him again. He admits to lying, but not killing him. They trace him to the Comic Factory, a comedy club. Reed is innocent. Bobby was there to see Angel Santana. He smashed up her bike and leaves. Castle is getting laid once again. Castle suggests Ellie as the lead in Nikki Heat. Beckett says that she was throwing herself at him for the part. This sparks some sexual tension. They find a photo of Bobby sleeping with his intern. They was a threatening note on the back of the photo. They talk with Kayla. She says that they were in love. Her mom was the producer. She isn’t happy with this. They check his financials and find that Mann was being blackmailed by Zack Robinson. He paid $100K to him. Robinson is MIA.
Castle is in bed with Ellie again. He mentions that someone suspected Ellie for being with him for the part. She cried. Beckett isn’t impressed. They find Zack. He says that he was working for Mann. Zack also served time. He paid him to bug the office of the president of the network a week ago. He delivered the CDs to Bobby, on the morning of his death. The network president wanted Bobby out. He had an iron-clad contract and wanted to have Mann killed. They get him in for questioning. He says that he was with Ellie Monroe the night of the murder. She was screwing him for a part.
Castle realizes that he was thinking about recruiting Angel Santana. They question Bobby’s sidekick again. He was going to fire Hank. At 1:56AM, he bought balsamic vinegar and cranberry juice. He also vandalized Angel Santana’s bike. He told him that night he left the studio. He killed her.
Beckett is a bit jealous of Ellie Monroe. Castle kind of enjoys this. That night, Ellie drops by. She apologizes for sleeping with him for the part, Castle says that he didn’t mind getting used and he’s not rescinding his recommendation. She’s a better actress than he thought she was.
