24 Day 8 7AM-8AM S08E16 (Fox)

Cast of 24 Day 8, image via Wikipedia

After a somewhat lukewarm and disappointing season 7, 24 is back with another season. It’s been a while since we saw Jack Bauer and it looks like he’s fully recovered from his ordeal from the end of last season.

Jack is living it up with his family. He’s fully reconciled with Kim and her husband and he’s spending time with his granddaughter Terri, who looks like she’s about 4. One of the biggest mistakes of the screenwriters in the last season was coming up with a fictional African country. It’s really bad that they did this. They’ve done it again with this season. This season features an Islamic republic named Kamistan. WTF you imbeciles? Didn’t you guys learn anything from last season?

This is why Spooks is so much more entertaining because it’s more realistic. I’m kind of annoyed that they’ve done it again this time around. Still, it’s good to see Jack at it again. There was another thing that kind of annoyed me. Chloe is having trouble with the new CTU systems. She’s been back a month and has trouble learning them. It’s really surprising and doesn’t make much sense, since Chloe has always been the über-analyst of this season.

There are some interesting additions in the cast. Katee Sackhoff is most intriguing. She plays another analyst, who’s involved with an agent named Cole.

Warning: spoilers ahead.

This season of 24 isn’t bad. I’m entertained. It’s kind of funny how Jack gets roped into things once more. President Taylor isn’t so annoying anymore. Maybe that’s because we see less of her. I did enjoy how she made it clear to Hassan that if a bomb detonates on US soil, she will have to retaliate.

Walsh tries to get out of CTU, but they won’t her. Only authorized people will be let out, personally authorized by Hastings. Dana is trapped in CTU.

The President is briefed about the situation. Novakovitch comes to see Taylor. If Hassan dies, Russia won’t support the peace agreement.

Renee briefs Chloe. She is ready to receive the data from Jack. Dana goes to see Walsh. She wants to use his workstation. He gets a call from Chloe. She wants to talk with him. Dana authorizes her departure. Renee tells Hastings about the mole. They quickly find that Dana is the mole. Dana makes her exit by shooting her way out. Cole arrives just in time to stop her from taking a car. He shoots out her tires and she crashes it. Dana is in custody. She wants to talk to Jack Bauer. Cole has trouble explaining his actions. Hastings tells him to get debriefed first. Bauer arrives at CTU. The interrogation room is pretty high-tech. She says that she can get them Hassan in exchange for money, a clean record, and immunity. She says that in 30 minutes, they will have Hassan’s head. She’s working for someone different.

Bauer says that given their timeframe, they don’t have the choice. Dana is hiding something, but they don’t have the time to find out. They need to call the President. She signs the deal and goes to see Kainen. He says that without Hassan, there can be no peace.

Hassan is brought before Samir. They inject him with something. They are torturing him a bit with a taser. The drug was going to break him but it didn’t. Samir decides to read his crimes out himself and then he will be beheaded.

Dana is briefing Jack and his team. She gives them the location of Samir. He’s got 6 men with him. The building is populated with families. He will want to use them as shields. Hastings tells Cole that he’s on the op with Jack.

I know what will happen. They will discover the probie officer’s body after she gets her deal and she’ll get charged with murder. Her deal will only cover her actions of treason and whatnot.

Samir starts his feed. Jack arrives. They take out the lookouts with coordinated sniper fire. All of the agents have silenced weapons and they move in the building. Renee is with Jack. They find him but it was too late. The feed was delayed. The terrorists are dead.
