24 Day 8 9AM-10AM S08E18 (Fox)

Cast of 24 Day 8, image via Wikipedia

After a somewhat lukewarm and disappointing season 7, 24 is back with another season. It’s been a while since we saw Jack Bauer and it looks like he’s fully recovered from his ordeal from the end of last season.

Jack is living it up with his family. He’s fully reconciled with Kim and her husband and he’s spending time with his granddaughter Terri, who looks like she’s about 4. One of the biggest mistakes of the screenwriters in the last season was coming up with a fictional African country. It’s really bad that they did this. They’ve done it again with this season. This season features an Islamic republic named Kamistan. WTF you imbeciles? Didn’t you guys learn anything from last season?

This is why Spooks is so much more entertaining because it’s more realistic. I’m kind of annoyed that they’ve done it again this time around. Still, it’s good to see Jack at it again. There was another thing that kind of annoyed me. Chloe is having trouble with the new CTU systems. She’s been back a month and has trouble learning them. It’s really surprising and doesn’t make much sense, since Chloe has always been the über-analyst of this season.

There are some interesting additions in the cast. Katee Sackhoff is most intriguing. She plays another analyst, who’s involved with an agent named Cole.

Warning: spoilers ahead.

This season of 24 isn’t bad. I’m entertained. It’s kind of funny how Jack gets roped into things once more. President Taylor isn’t so annoying anymore. Maybe that’s because we see less of her. I did enjoy how she made it clear to Hassan that if a bomb detonates on US soil, she will have to retaliate.

Jack is in shock. Chloe calls. He wants to see Bazhaev, who’s currently being arraigned.

Kainen finds out that Taylor sent in Logan without knowing exactly he was going to do. Logan talks with Novakovitch. Logan says that they all know that another state was involved. He’s basically saying that it was in Russia’s best interest to get rid of Hassan. Logan has got proof. If Novakovitch doesn’t comply, he will tell the President. On his way back to the UN, the President calls him. The Russians will sign the peace agreement.

Bazhaev’s bail was denied. Jack is in the courtroom. Jack threatens Bazhaev’s whole family. In exchange, Jack will get his family into WITSEC. Bazhaev says that the Russian government is behind this. A woman was working with them all along, the woman named Dana Walsh. Dana Walsh was a Russian plant. Chloe asks Cole to watch Walsh’s interrogation.

Logan is told that Bauer talked with Bazhaev. He is told that Bauer is going to see Walsh at CTU. They need to stop him. He needs to talk to the President so that she can intervene.

Bauer arrives to see Walsh. He softens her up a bit. She says that she’s got proof of the person behind everything. She wants the immunity deal back.

Logan tries to blackball Bauer to the President. Logan says that the Russians were behind supplying the nuclear material and Hassan’s assassination. Taylor decides to go to CTU. She plans on screwing him royally so that the peace treaty can be ratified.

Taylor says that she doesn’t want Bauer to question Walsh. She’s having him flown to a military base to be debriefed. She’s locking him down. This won’t end well. Jack won’t be in chains for long.

On the helipad, Jack pulls a gun and takes a guy hostage. He takes a helicopter. Chloe tries to talk him down but it’s to no avail.
