Castle Den of Thieves S02E21 (ABC)

I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.

Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.

So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.

Warning: spoilers ahead

The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.

Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.

ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

A new detective uncovers stuff that lead back to Esposito’s old partner, who’s supposed to be dead.

Beckett gets hit on by some dude at her gym. She gets a call for a stiff, a thief named Paul Finch who was found murdered in his car. They have called in the wife. He was electrocuted. Someone was trying to torture him with the car battery. The stiff’s eyes have been closed, meaning that the killer knew his victim.

They speak with his wife. She says that he was out of the game. Some guy came to see him a few weeks ago. He owed him and had to help him out. There was a bank heist.

The hot guy who was flirting with Beckett is Tom Deming, a detective who just transferred in. He’s from Robbery. He’s Esposito’s buddy. At the bank, they only took out only one safety deposit box. The guy who owned the box comes in. He says that there were only stamps in his safety deposit box. He’s obviously lying. He’s not a stamp collector. Esposito doesn’t like Fred Conan. He works for Victor Racine, who killed Esposito’s old partner. Esposito thinks that Conan was holding something for Racine. This means that Finch’s partner was Ike, Esposito’s old partner who is supposed to be dead. That’s what I think.

Beckett wants to talk with Racine, who isn’t very forthcoming, at least from Castle’s point of view. Racine hasn’t found Finch’s partner yet. He’s letting the cops to his legwork.

Laney fumigates the body for prints. Castle takes a few pics and discovers something. There was a latent. They run it. It belongs to Ike, Esposito’s old partner.

An IA officer arrives. He was the investigating officer and says that Ike was a dirty cop who informed on Racine. Esposito agrees to get a polygraph stating that he didn’t know anything about this. They find evidence that links Ike to Finch’s murder. Carol, Ike’s wife, must have known. They bring her in. She doesn’t help them. Since Ike is alive, they can’t compel her to testify against her husband. Esposito passes his polygraph and agrees to talk to Carol later.

Deming asks Castle if there’s anything going on between him and Beckett. Castle says no. Later, he plays poker with Alexis and is off his game. He’s still worried about Beckett.

Esposito goes to see Carol with Ryan.

Deming sees Finch casing the bank. His wife was with him. Ike was working with them. They bring in Finch’s wife. She says that there was a ledger in the box. When they hit the box, it was empty. She also doesn’t believe that Ike killed Finch.

Racine put a price on Ike’s head. Esposito thinks that the will go after Carol. They go there and find them gone. Ike is waiting for him. He’s got a gun on him. Ike says that Racine framed him. There is someone else who is dirty on the Force. It must be that IA guy. Esposito confirms that Ike isn’t the killer. His 54th Precinct keychain is fine. Esposito thinks that it’s Demming. He’s also from the 54th. They want to get his cell phone away from him. He must be using it to call Racine.

Beckett has got an idea. She spars with him at the cop gym. It wasn’t Demming. He’s got an alibi. Castle thinks that whoever put the suspicion on Ike must be the dirty cop. It must the Lt Halliwell from IA.

Esposito and Ike try to get the ledger from Racine. Halliwell is there with a gun on them. Ike has a gun in the small of his back. He tells Esposito to go for it. He takes a shot at Halliwell. Halliwell tries to get away, but Beckett and the squad arrive to stop him. Ike has been cleared and Halliwell and Racine will be going to jail.
