The Mentalist Red All Over S02E20 (CBS)

The Mentalist tells the story of Patrick Jane played by Simon Baker, a man specializing in studying the micro-expressions of people who became involved with trying to catch a serial killer named Red John. Red John killed his wife and daughter. Since then, Jane has been working with the stupidly named CBI, California Bureau of Investigations, a kind of state police.

Robin Tunney plays Agent Lisbon, who is in charge of the unit. Van Pelt is the new agent on the squad. Rigsby has a crush on her. The Mentalist is kind of like the TNT show Psych, but it’s not a comedy, it’s a drama. I’ve enjoyed this series because it’s light and interesting. I’ve kind of come to despise Criminal Minds.

Jane uses his semi-celebrity and his lack of protocol to solve cases quickly, cases in which the CBI wouldn’t be able to come up with answers without him. Each episode has the color red in its title. The Mentalist resembles the show Lie to Me, which premiered in 2009 on Fox. The Mentalist started on the 23rd of September 2008 on CBS.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

The new CEO of Harrington Media is killed before he can start the job. He was stabbed in the neck and makes it out to the party. A confidential report about the layoffs at a paper was stolen. Jane interviews the reporters. He immediately notices a hot reporter who doesn’t mind hearing about the layoffs. She’s got blood on her heels.

They question her later. Now, she’s nervous. She says that she took the file and ran. She didn’t see Xander’s body. Xander’s brother Ed told her about this. She’s almost immediately cleared. Hightower tells Van Pelt to take Rigsby with her. The cameras in the house were turned off because of the trophy wife. Harrington Sr says that Xander forced him out by using the board. He was very proud of the guts it took for Xander to do so. They talk with Sadie, Xander’s wife. She mentions about Visualize, some kind of cult. They were running an exposé about them and received threatening letters.

Van Pelt and Rigsby question Ed, who’s getting a massage. He exchanged the info about the layoffs with Heather for sex.

Cho and Jane go to the cult. The dude at the cult says that there was a problem in Xander’s marriage. If Xander died, the wife would get everything. There was a prenup. Styles was there the whole time. He just didn’t want to get questioned.

Lisbon talks with Harrington after talking with Sadie about her lovers and the prenup. Harrington gets a text saying that there is a bomb in the grand salon. Lisbon phones Jane. She needs to find the bomb. She finds it quickly enough. There is a bomb. Jane tells Lisbon to run. However, she sees that Ashley is there as well. The girl won’t leave so she has to pull some wires. She disconnects the bomb just in time. Harrington Sr says that Sadie will be taking over the company, not Ed. The bomb threat came from Elizabeth Stanfeld, Sadie’s assistant. They find a book from the Visualize cult at her place.

Malcolm MacDowell plays Styles. Lisbon and Jane go to see him while he is taping an infomercial. He gets in Jane’s head by talking about Red John. Styles is very well informed. He says that Liz is at Ed’s penthouse. They find them having sex. They both get arrested. Liz basically admits to the bombing.

Both Harrington and his trophy wife come to pick up Ed. Jane uses Liz’s phone to send another threat to the Harringtons so that he asks Lisbon and her team to be extra security. Jane hears a noise in the living room. It comes from Xander’s office. Jane divines that Ashley witnessed the murder. The power goes out. The perimeter has been breached. The cops are MIA. Lisbon sends Harrington and Ashley into the safe room. It was all part of their plan to get Harrington Sr to question Ashley about the murder. Cho is in the panic room. Harrington killed Xander. Cho arrests Harrington Sr. Harrington thought that Xander was having an affair with the trophy wife. This wasn’t the case. Ed was having an affair with her. He ordered a paternity test on his daughter. He wasn’t the father. He confronted Xander and he didn’t deny it.

Styles comes to complain about Jane to Hightower. Hightower doesn’t really care. She defends Jane and lets him go on his way.
