It’s fitting that this show will premiere on Fox, since this was the network of the X-Files. Fringe has got much in common with the X-Files, yet it is different. Fringe is the latest show of wunderkind J.J. Abrams. Like most new shows, the pilot was leaked on the internet a few weeks ago.
Just like a few other shows, like True Blood, I’m happily surprised by Fringe. The production values are great and I’m enjoying it a lot. A lot of money has been pumped into this show, and it just looks fabulous. The protagonists are also an interesting bunch. There isn’t much more that we learn of the Pattern, but Massive Dynamics is most definitely deeply connected with those events, even though they aren’t sharing their information with Agent Dunham.
I think that this show takes a few common elements from Alias, especially for all the things that concerned the mystic scholar Milo Rambaldi. The same kind of esoteric science is involved in this show. It’s done very well. I’d actually like to see this type of mystic science have more of an impact on the show. It would suit the show very well. A bit of the supernatural wouldn’t be bad either.

The code for this week is WEISS.
Fringe is one of the best shows on TV right now. It’s getting better and better, and I like it maybe a bit more than X-Files. Why? There are less filler episodes. Most episodes deal with the mythology of the show.
We found out what exactly happened to Peter in the episode Peter. It details how and why Bishop went to the other universe in 1985, piercing the veil between universes for the first time. There were unintended consequences, things that will happen because of this.
It begs the question: would you destroy another universe to save your child?
The show explores the other side, as our main characters try to save Peter from his fate. The Observers intervene to show them what Walternate has planned for them. In the midst of it all, we see the other versions of Dunham, Broyles, and Francis. It’s kind of awesome. The Fringe Division of the DOD on the other side goes about and tries to stop the cracks in the fabric of the universe. These have been happening for 23 years, ever since Walter went through the looking glass to abduct Peter from the other side.
This part picks off where part 1 left off. Peter realizes that Walternate has got plans to destroy the other universe to save his own. Olivia meets her double and gets into trouble. Bell apparently dies to send Olivia², Peter, and Walter back to the other side. The Olivia we know is being held on the other side by Walter. I just wonder how Olivia² was able to open the crack. Was she also on the Cortexafan trials?
Anyway, this was a great way to end the season. It gets an A from me.

It doesn’t take long for Olivia² to get a gun. They fight. Olivia is able to knock her out. She colors her hair to look like Olivia². She finds Peter’s address. Francis arrives. He has a new assignment for them. They need to head to Walternate’s old lab. Olivia says that the secretary wants them to move Peter. Francis is surprised that Peter was discovered.
Olivia² wakes up.
Peter finds out that the machine will only work for him. He activates it. Just then, Olivia and Francis arrive. They knock out Francis. Peter says that he was brought back by his father to destroy the other universe. Olivia says that he has to come back because he belongs with her.
The secretary and Dunham arrive at Fringe. They want to find the other Dunham. They find her immediately. Walternate says that they are heading back to the opera house. Fringe Division arrives. Bell fires with a plasma gun. It’s very powerful. Olivia is helping Bell. He’s got prototype white phosphorous grenades.
Walternate has got an idea. He plans on using the old switcheroo on Olivia. Bell is knocked out. Olivia uses one of those grenades.
Bell says that he has been crossing over for so many times that he is about to split apart. He has enough power for their purpose. Bell says that he took the memories because Walter asked him to. This was to prevent him from becoming Walternate.
They cross over successfully. Olivia² is here instead of Olivia. Olivia² goes looking for a certain type of typewriter. It’s the one that she can use to communicate with the other side. Olivia²’s tattoo is apparent when she starts typing. She says that the infiltration was successful. She gets her orders.
Olivia is being held on the other side in isolation.
