24 Day 8 11AM-12PM S08E20 (Fox)

Cast of 24 Day 8, image via Wikipedia

After a somewhat lukewarm and disappointing season 7, 24 is back with another season. It’s been a while since we saw Jack Bauer and it looks like he’s fully recovered from his ordeal from the end of last season.

Jack is living it up with his family. He’s fully reconciled with Kim and her husband and he’s spending time with his granddaughter Terri, who looks like she’s about 4. One of the biggest mistakes of the screenwriters in the last season was coming up with a fictional African country. It’s really bad that they did this. They’ve done it again with this season. This season features an Islamic republic named Kamistan. WTF you imbeciles? Didn’t you guys learn anything from last season?

This is why Spooks is so much more entertaining because it’s more realistic. I’m kind of annoyed that they’ve done it again this time around. Still, it’s good to see Jack at it again. There was another thing that kind of annoyed me. Chloe is having trouble with the new CTU systems. She’s been back a month and has trouble learning them. It’s really surprising and doesn’t make much sense, since Chloe has always been the über-analyst of this season.

There are some interesting additions in the cast. Katee Sackhoff is most intriguing. She plays another analyst, who’s involved with an agent named Cole.

Warning: spoilers ahead.

This season of 24 isn’t bad. I’m entertained. It’s kind of funny how Jack gets roped into things once more. President Taylor isn’t so annoying anymore. Maybe that’s because we see less of her. I did enjoy how she made it clear to Hassan that if a bomb detonates on US soil, she will have to retaliate.

Logan is told that Bledsoe wanted confirmation with Walsh. There is a lot of plausible deniability happening in this episode. Logan tells his secretary that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about when he mentions the end result of the Walsh interrogation.

While this is happening, Bauer and Ortiz are outside the safe house. Bauer wants to make a deal with Walsh in exchange for the evidence. They storm the place from the rooftop. They get her. Bledsoe is dead.

Chloe is told that her sting op didn’t work. Jack knew her too well. He reversed the situation and took Cole hostage.

Walsh doesn’t want to give up the intel. Jack forces her hand. It’s in a safety deposit box.

Taylor calls Logan. She’s livid. He wants to put his aide Pillar in charge of the manhunt for Jack. She agrees to this bargain. The Russians come to see Logan. Logan wants the Russians to be a hit out on Bauer using their assets. He will provide them real time intel from CTU thanks to Pillar.

Ortiz is taking Walsh into the bank.

Pillar arrives to take over the operation. He’s got a presidential order giving him control of the manhunt. Chloe has to hand over the access codes and overrides to the servers.

The safety deposit box has a flash bang device and a gun with a silencer. Dana uses it to get the upper hand on Cole. There is some cash and a passport. Cole is out. Dana kills the banker. She makes a call about an armed gunman outside of the bank. CTU has already traced him there, thanks to a tip off. Pillar calls the Russians. They will have to take him out in transit.

The cops get Jack. He sees Walsh leaving with a gun. He manages to get away from them and goes after Walsh. They exchange fire. She goes into a building that’s under construction but runs out of bullets. She tries to get away but Jack has got her. She hands over the evidence. He shoots her in the shoulder and shoots her again. She’s dead.
