24 Day 8 3PM-4PM S08E24 (Fox)

Cast of 24 Day 8, image via Wikipedia

After a somewhat lukewarm and disappointing season 7, 24 is back with another season. It’s been a while since we saw Jack Bauer and it looks like he’s fully recovered from his ordeal from the end of last season.

Jack is living it up with his family. He’s fully reconciled with Kim and her husband and he’s spending time with his granddaughter Terri, who looks like she’s about 4. One of the biggest mistakes of the screenwriters in the last season was coming up with a fictional African country. It’s really bad that they did this. They’ve done it again with this season. This season features an Islamic republic named Kamistan. WTF you imbeciles? Didn’t you guys learn anything from last season?

This is why Spooks is so much more entertaining because it’s more realistic. I’m kind of annoyed that they’ve done it again this time around. Still, it’s good to see Jack at it again. There was another thing that kind of annoyed me. Chloe is having trouble with the new CTU systems. She’s been back a month and has trouble learning them. It’s really surprising and doesn’t make much sense, since Chloe has always been the über-analyst of this season.

There are some interesting additions in the cast. Katee Sackhoff is most intriguing. She plays another analyst, who’s involved with an agent named Cole.

Warning: spoilers ahead.

This season of 24 isn’t bad. I’m entertained. It’s kind of funny how Jack gets roped into things once more. President Taylor isn’t so annoying anymore. Maybe that’s because we see less of her. I did enjoy how she made it clear to Hassan that if a bomb detonates on US soil, she will have to retaliate.

This is the last episode of 24. The show hasn’t been renewed. The whole thing about making up nations as to not offend anyone is really annoying. I’ve never liked this. This is the reason why Spooks was so much better. They are planning on working on a feature length film. I don’t know if it will be made, but plans are to shoot it at the end of the year.

This season wasn’t bad, but it could have been better. The fact of the matter was there was no doubt in my mind that President Taylor would come clean to someone at the end of the season. That much was predictable. Since they were talking about making a 24 movie, it’s obvious that Jack Bauer would survive. The premise of this season was also unrealistic. A peace agreement brokered by the USA in the Middle East?

Subarov picks up on Dahlia’s reticence. He finds out that Dahlia knows about his involvement. Logan calls Subarov. He tells him to join him in his quarters. There’s some kind of threat. Subarov will come. Chloe wakes up and starts talking to him.

Chloe doesn’t answer her phone, so Cole sends in a tac team. They are told to use lethal force if necessary. Bauer is ready to start a war to avenge her. Chloe says that Renee would have wanted him to use the datacard to seek justice. It’s enough to convince Jack not to pull a Franz Ferdinand. Jack tells Chloe to shoot him. There is no way around this. This will whitewash her. She circumvented CTU to get to him. He is about to shoot himself when she shoots him in the chest. The tac team apprehends him.

Chloe wants Arlo to be ready to upload the file. Chloe is detained by CTU agents. Logan calls Pillar to clean up. He wants him to get the recording. Pillar searches Chloe, but she’s obviously hidden it in her women parts. Nope, it was inside her phone, in the battery compartment.

Jack is stable. Pillar is immediately suspicious when Jack is fine. When Pillar is about to leave, Jack bites his ear off. He wants Chloe locked down. CTU is pretty fast. Chloe barely manages to upload a bit of the recording before Burke gets it. He immediately calls Pillar. The game is over unless something extraordinary happens. Since this is US TV, of course it will.

Chloe and Cole are under arrest. They will be brought to CTU. Burke brings the recording to Logan. Logan gives it to Taylor. He knows that Taylor is weak, so he tries to impress her with what to do. He wants Jack locked away for good in a black prison overseas. Taylor checks out the recording. It’s Jack’s recording for his family. She’s going to give it to the UN’s Secretary General. Taylor doesn’t sign the agreement and gives the recording to Dahlia Hassan. She makes a short speech.

Taylor has Woods protect Jack’s medical convoy. It’s about to get ambushed. It’s already happened. Jack is crawling out of the ambulance. Some mercs take him away. It’s too late.

The UN Secretary General makes a statement. Eriq LaSalle’s accent is from Botswana, or so I believe. I’m not sure of this, naturally. Someone calls for Logan. Logan is ignoring it. Pillar doesn’t want a murder charge on their heads as well. Pillar picks it up. Logan knocks him out. He takes his gun and kills Pillar. Taylor and Woods are outside the door. Logan kills himself, or at least tries to. He survives and will suffer brain damage. Taylor wants Chloe and Cole released. She needs to find Jack. Woods has already done this.

At CTU, Eden is getting arrested. CTU has been cleared of Logan’s men. They are tracing the van. They found it. Jack is about to be executed. Even in his weakened state, Jack puts up a fight but it’s not enough. At the last moment, the operatives get a call from President Taylor. She was put through thanks to a direct microwave signal. She orders him to release Jack Bauer immediately. She tells the agent to give Bauer the phone. Taylor says that it is already over. She will tell the world and tender her resignation. She tells him that he needs to leave the country while he can. The Russians will be coming after him, and so will the USA. She could give him a Presidential Pardon, with her last act. Bauer calls Chloe. He wants his family protected. Jack says his goodbyes to Chloe.

It seems to me that this needs a movie to end properly. From what I have read, it looks like there will be one.
