This series is based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries books by Charlaine Harris. It tells the story of how humans and vampires co-exist in a small southern town. Personally, I’ve never read the books, so I don’t know how accurate the adaptation is. However, it is quite interesting. It’s a good twist on the mythos.
There are loads of vampire shows out there. Most recently, Moonlight was canceled from CBS. Some of them are successful, others aren’t. The pilot was interesting. I’ve never seen a show explore the relationship between vampires and humans.
The series is adapted by Alan Ball. He also produced it. Alan Ball is the man behind Six Feet Under. The setting is interesting as well. Thanks to HBO, the show does have some mature content. It makes the whole thing more interesting.
I don’t really know what to say of Anna Paquin’s acting. It seems to me that she played a southern belle already in X-Men as Rogue. She does do the same thing in this show. It’s hard to see the difference. As with her role as Rogue, Sookie has never been in love or had men in her life. It’s funny how you can draw parallels between Paquin’s different characters.
New Orleans and Louisiana are a hotbed for vampire fiction. Lestat of the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice makes the city his home.
I was completely blown away by the second episode of the first season. It ends in such a cliffhanger. The third episode partly resolves this, but it was still really good. The sex scenes between Jason and his lovers are also quite interesting. The show is infused with an animalistic fervor which is appealing. I recommend this show. Along with Fringe, this is one of my favorite new shows on TV this season. The show has gotten a lot of great reviews and only ten days after it premiered, HBO ordered another season. It’s one of the few shows who’s audience share actually climbed for the second episode. The fifth episode also ends with a bang, something that I didn’t think would happen.
The third season just premiered on the weekend. It takes off right when the last episode stopped. Things are going to get interesting.

Excellent way to start the 3rd season. The 2nd season was amazing. I just don’t understand how I missed watching the last three episodes of season 2. I remedied that last night. I really enjoyed them.
It’s really interesting to see the twist on the werewolves. We don’t know much about them, but they don’t look friendly to vampires. The maenad or Bacchantes from last season, Maryann, was completely bonkers. I truly enjoyed this episode. I give it an A. I’ll be posting the remainder reviews/recaps of season 2 in the coming days.

Bill is driving the car manically. He tells Sookie that she undermined his authority as Jessica’s maker. If he hadn’t glamoured them within an inch of their lives, they would all be screwed. Sookie walks out of the car. Jessica tells Bill that Sookie wants him to go after her. Bill believes that she will come back on her own. They are 20 miles from Bon Temps. She hears strange noises. It sounds like a beast is after her. She can see it. She gets clawed by something in the back. Some kind of a minotaur. Bill comes to get her and finds her in the street. He tries to give her blood, but it’s not helping. He has Jessica drive and orders her to go home. Eric is there. They brought her to a spirit doctor. She says that Sookie was poisoned. Eric doesn’t know what did it. Eric sends his progeny to search for the bull headed monster. Its claw was extremely poisonous, covered by bacteria, kind of like a Komodo dragon. While the healer is digging in Sookie’s back and Bill is holding her down, Jason awakes startled. He dreamed of Eddie. Jason prays.
Jason tells the Jesus freaks that he’s not a vampire victim. His sister is dating one. His grandmother and girlfriend were killed by his best friend because he had a problem with vampires. Jason walks out. Sarah goes after him and wants him to stay. She says that they stole her sister Amber.
The healer has cleaned up Sookie’s wounds and neutralized the poison. It’s safe to give her blood. Bill gives her blood. Eric wanted to give him his, but Bill would never let her have any. Pam reports that the area has been scanned. The tracks were human, but the scent is animal, but she doesn’t recognize it. Bill thanks Eric, but he already hints she has to repay her in some fashion.
Daphne is short of $64.08 at Merlotte’s. Sam tells Tara to stay away from Mary Anne. She asks Mary Anne why Sam hates her. Mary Anne doesn’t say anything, she just deflects. Sam is going to take a trip. He wants Terry to take care of the bar. Terry tells him that he is a coward for running.
Sookie wakes up in Eric’s club. Her back has no scars. Ginger made her a sandwich. She finds out that Lafayette is in the basement. Sookie runs off to get a gun and she wants him freed. Bill comes to find Sookie at Fangtasia in the evening. Sookie wants to know about Lafayette. Eric says that Lafayette committed a crime. Eric doesn’t respond well to threats, but maybe they can come to an arrangement. If she comes to Dallas to investigate for the missing vampire, Eric will release Lafayette. Bill is coming with her and she will get $10K. Lafayette is freed. They drop Lafayette off at his place. He won’t go to a hospital.
Jessica is by herself at Bill’s. She decides to go to Merlotte’s. She meets Hoyt. He’s not appalled to learn that she is a vampire. She brings him to Bill’s. They kiss and her fangs come out.
Tara is smoking some weed with her man. She misses her shift at Merlotte’s. Sam phones her to take a look at the people around her. A bunch people arrive at Mary Anne for a party. Andy Bellefleur is there and Mary Anne convinces him to stay a while. He thought he saw a giant red pig, but it wasn’t there a few moments later. Later that night, when a topless girls starts massaging her man, Tara notices that something strange is going on. Almost all of the women are topless or naked and love is in the air. It ain’t right, that’s what she is thinking. Tara doesn’t see it, but the revelers are getting possessed by something. Their eyes are changing. Sam meets Daphne as he runs around with his buddy the dog. He won’t jump into the water when she walks up to Sam. He doesn’t see that her back has got the same claw marks as Sookie’s used to have after she was attacked. The same monster attacked Daphne as well.
