I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.
Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.
So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.
Warning: spoilers ahead
The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.
Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.
ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.
* * * * *
A girl finds blood in her mom’s apartment. She finds her mom stashed in the sofa bed, dead.
Martha’s guy proposed to her and gave her a giant rock.
Castle gets called to a case. Vivian Marchand is a psychic medium, or something like that. Penny Marchand says that her mom helped to put away 12 people.
They talk with Vivian’s last clients, a mother and daughter. They saw the man who arrived after they left the office. Vivian had a note in her calendar to meet someone named TJ. Alfred was Alfred Mareno, some enforcer for the mob. Vivian told Albert to invest in some real estate deal. It fell through. She’s dead. He was her client.
They talk with him. He says he met with her and was pretty upset. He met his broker’s partner, Loreen. They were high school sweethearts.
The cops on the cases that Vivian was involved in downplay her involvement. Some of them didn’t even hear of them. They receive a letter from Vivian at the precinct. It was sent on the day of her death. Beckett thinks that the killer sent the letter. There is a number in it. It slightly matches the daughter’s phone number.
One of the cons’ anklets put Steve Adams at Vivian’s office. They bring him in. He’s wearing all black. He was there for over an hour. Cody Donnelly says that Vivian lied about her predictions. He went to see Vivan with Cody, a reality TV producer for “You’ve Ruined My Wife”. The GPS puts Adams at his apartment when Vivian was murdered. Beckett is no longer seeing her beau.
Martha plans on leaving Chet. She comes back and says that Chet is dead. He had a stroke in his sleep.
Penny comes to see Beckett. She says that she will meet an Alexander who will be extremely important to her. He will save her life.
They interview Cody. He says that Vivian called him. She says that she was on a big case. She was going to confront a killer. Vivian went to see Nick and Tony Johnston, TJ. They go see Tony. Vivian knew about the affair that she was having with Nick’s boss. Vivian said that she knew that Nick knew all about her affair. Her dead lover Emilio came to see Vivian. He’s the husband of the mother/daughter clients. Laney says that Emilio might have been poisoned by selenium. Nick Johnston figured out about the affair and killed Emilio. He then killed Vivian because she was onto him.
They talk with Nick. He doesn’t look like a murderer. Penny comes to see Beckett again. She says that she knows who killed her mother. She says that the Freemasons killed her.
They trace the Cassiases. They were at a restaurant around the corner from Vivian’s. They were at Mason’s. The mother left the restaurant to go to the liquor store. She didn’t go out to buy a bottle of wine. She bought the bottle earlier with an ice pick to kill Vivian. She did so to cover up the other murder. Emilio told him that he met someone new and young. She admits to poisoning him with selenium.
Rick’s middle name is Alexander. He tells Beckett. Castle went to Chet’s funeral with Martha. She gave the ring back. I’m surprised. The rock looked like it was worth 145K or more. The main diamond was at least five carats, if it was a real diamond.
