The Mentalist Red Carpet Treatment S03E04 (CBS)

The Mentalist tells the story of Patrick Jane played by Simon Baker, a man specializing in studying the micro-expressions of people who became involved with trying to catch a serial killer named Red John. Red John killed his wife and daughter. Since then, Jane has been working with the stupidly named CBI, California Bureau of Investigations, a kind of state police.

Robin Tunney plays Agent Lisbon, who is in charge of the unit. Van Pelt is the new agent on the squad. Rigsby has a crush on her. The Mentalist is kind of like the TNT show Psych, but it’s not a comedy, it’s a drama. I’ve enjoyed this series because it’s light and interesting. I’ve kind of come to despise Criminal Minds.

Jane uses his semi-celebrity and his lack of protocol to solve cases quickly, cases in which the CBI wouldn’t be able to come up with answers without him. Each episode has the color red in its title. The Mentalist resembles the show Lie to Me, which premiered in 2009 on Fox. The Mentalist started on the 23rd of September 2008 on CBS.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

A guy is found in a San Francisco motel with 8-10 shots to the head. The guy was just released from prison with a full pardon. DNA evidence cleared him from a rape. Jane gets caught sleeping on tape in a van by a reporter. She paid for the dead guy’s motel room. She’s involved with the stiff.

Van Pelt is having lunch with a date. He also works at the office. Rigsby is jealous.

Lisbon goes to see Karen Cross, the reporter. Jane is talking with the husband of the girl that Dahl was supposed to have raped and murdered. He seems to be at peace. Jane and Lisbon stay for the broadcast.

Rigsby and Cho visit Dahl’s halfway house. They find some dude hiding out in Dahl’s room. Marty was looking for his money. Dahl owes him $22K from some dope deal 9 years ago. Dahl also had a girlfriend. Her name is Betsy and she’s married.

Jane visits Winter’s house and talks with Jackson, the son. He then visits Winter at his shooting range. Winter is talking about reconciliation and forgiveness.

Lisbon is talking with Betsy and her husband. It turns out that she slept with Dahl. They aren’t suspects. They can’t handle a gun.

Cross wants to put Jane on TV. At the show, Jane hands out some candles. All of the suspects are at the show. He uses neuro-linguistic programming on Cross. He quickly turns the tables on her. He makes Jackson Winter’s candle flame up. Jackson shoots 9mm guns. He’s using it to get Max Winter to confess. He knew that Dahl was going to come out because he set him free. He swapped out the DNA samples. He shot Dahl in the head. He says that Dahl was already dead. The back of his head was busted open. He’s telling the truth. That puts Betsy and her husband back in the frame.

They find Betsy and Sean under a bridge. He’s trying to stop her from jumping. Sean found the email 2 weeks ago so he killed Dahl.

Winter drops by to see Jane with a gift. Jane helped influence the DA to drop the charges against him. It’s probably a gun.
