Castle 3XK S03E06 (ABC)

I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.

Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.

So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.

Warning: spoilers ahead

The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.

Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.

ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

Alexis has a secret admirer. To Castle, it sounds like a stalker. He left her a poem. She’s trying to figure out who it is by using her detection abilities.

Linda Russo was found strangled. Her throat has ligature marks. It looks like a rope was used. Castle immediately thinks of something. It has to do with a killer that he researched for a novel. Laney does some comparisons and finds out that Linda was killed with the same kind of rope. It’s the Triple Killer. He’s also referred to as 3XK. The captain briefs the squad about what happened. He will kill three murders in one week. Linda was being perved on by some guy in the office. He quit yesterday.

They talk with him. He’s had many complaints from his ex-wife. A guy threatened him and he stopped going to Linda’s place. The buy also sweats a lot. He’s got an alibi.

Beckett thinks that it was 3XK that warned him off. 3XK has got a history of posing as security guards. They find another victim named Kim Foster. Kim put up a fight on the couch. Beckett finds a name tag with the name Vince on it.

Linda Russo called the 3XK tip-off line to warn them about a cable guy. She’s been hiding ever since. The name-tag leads them to Marcus Gates. Gates is a sociopath and has done time for manslaughter as well as attempted murder. He just got out last month.

Beckett wants to talk with Gerry Tyson, one of Gates’ friends. Tyson says that Gates has reach and will find him no matter what. He tells them about a bar that he used to like. He just walks out and they arrest him.

The Captain tells Castle to sit the interrogation out. He says that he works in a place that stocks props. Gates wants to see the search warrant for his place. He wants to see where they are in the investigation. Empire prop says that Gates worked for them. The Captain tells Beckett to show him the warrant. The warrant lists basically where their investigation is at. He hasn’t got an alibi from when Kim was murdered.

They see security footage of him exonerating him. It’s probably someone wearing a disguise. They have to release him, but Beckett puts a surveillance team on him.

Alexis is meeting her secret admirer in Strawberry Fields. Castle doesn’t want to let her go, but she’s a teenager. Martha volunteers to make sure that she’s OK.

Tyson got beat up in jail. Castle surmises that Gates is afraid about what Tyson knows. They talk to him again. Gates apparently assaulted someone so that he could escape from the police radar 4 years ago. Tyson gets immediate early release and police protection. What Tyson says checks out.

Tyson tells Ryan that Gates used a partner from time to time. He never uses the same partner. Castle looks at the traffic cam footage. They compare the footage and find out that one of them is a fake. His partner is wearing a disguise. Paul McCarttle is the partner. Gates escaped surveillance.

Donna, Tyson’s girlfriend, is gone. McCarttle was in the same foster home as Gates. They arrest Gates as he is trying to assault Donna.

McCarttle is in hospital. He just had a $100K heart transplant surgery. Gates sent him flowers. This means that Gates still has feelings for McCarttle. Gates says that Paul didn’t know what was going on. He just did what he was told. Gates will talk if Paul gets immunity.

Gates confesses. Castle wonders how Paul paid for his operation. Castle thinks that there are some loose ends. They tell Tyson what happened. Castle realizes that Donna was supposed to die. Tyson had no reaction. Paul got the money when Tyson was released from prison. This means that Tyson is the 3XK killer, not Gates. Ryan pulls his gun, but he’s not quick enough. Tyson disarms him.

Tyson taught Gates everything so that he could take the fall. Castle profiles Tyson to freak him out. He’s got mommy issues.

Martha phones Castle and tells him that Alexis’ secret admirer was Ashley. He tells her that he loves her, which arouses her suspicion. She phones Beckett and Beckett arrives minutes after the killer is gone. Castle is still alive.
