I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.

Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.

So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.

Warning: spoilers ahead

The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.

Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.

ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

A dead man was found in Central Park by some BMXers. He was shot on both sides, front and back. Leonard Levitt was his name and he came from Queens. Castle finds a feather in his pocket. He worked for the transit bureau. He was killed by a .45. The shot in the front was from 150’. The two close ones were from within 6’, execution style. He was hunted and shot. Ryan and Esposito check out his place. He was tracking something or someone, probably some birds.

His supervisor points him to Arthur. Len changed the lightbulbs all over the NYC subway system. He put together some kind of breaker box for subway tracks after some dude was electrocuted.

Levitt blew the whistle on his boss Mario for stealing some lightbulbs and selling them on the black market. Mario was in the Marine Corps and won a medal for sharpshooting. The transit authority is migrating from incandescent to CFLs. They talk with Mario. He was going to steal the lightbulbs by selling them in Costa Rica. $100K was up for grabs. Mario is cleared. Lightbulbs didn’t get Lenny killed.

The surveillance equipment was bought by Byron H. Singer, BHS. Lenny was tracking BHS. They bring him in for questioning. Byron is talking about birds, red tailed hawks.

Castle realizes that Lenny should have had a camera. They go looking for it the next day. Len witnessed a child abduction and he was killed by him. Castle figures out that the kid was part of a soccer team from his socks. His name is Tyler Donegal, 12. The parents divorced 2 months ago. The mother says that he was in the city visiting his dad. It sounds like a custodial abduction. The mother remarried quickly. The mother arrives. She says that Dean has a Glock. She says that Dean liked to go to his family’s cabin with his son. From his apartment, it looks like Dean is on the move. Ryan finds out that he’s bought plane tickets to Indianapolis. Dean rented a motel room.

They find him. He says that his son has been abducted. He found a cellphone on his stoop. His Glock is a 9mm. The phone has text messages. They come from an Internet service in the Ukraine. They get another message from his son. It’s a video file. It was made 1:31AM. He mentions feeding Ace. Then they send another text. They want him at his place of employment. He’s got elevator access there, he’s like a human key to that building.

Esposito and Ryan bring Dean to the building. Castle figures out that they are holding Tyler under the building, in the subway station.

The kidnappers want Dean to go to the 37th floor. It’s vacant. Castle and Beckett go into the subway. They find Tyler and one of his kidnappers. They use a Lenny Box to get in there and surprise him.

On his way up, he gets accosted by men. They tell him to go to the 39th floor. They let him see their faces. This means that they will kill Dean as soon as they get what they want. Ryan, Esposito, and the other cops get the kidnappers/robbers before they can escape.

Robert Kincaid planned it. He was an ex-traded. They stole files about unpublished earnings reports.
