It’s fitting that this show will premiere on Fox, since this was the network of the X-Files. Fringe has got much in common with the X-Files, yet it is different. Fringe is the latest show of wunderkind J.J. Abrams. Like most new shows, the pilot was leaked on the internet a few weeks ago.

Just like a few other shows, like True Blood, I’m happily surprised by Fringe. The production values are great and I’m enjoying it a lot. A lot of money has been pumped into this show, and it just looks fabulous. The protagonists are also an interesting bunch. There isn’t much more that we learn of the Pattern, but Massive Dynamics is most definitely deeply connected with those events, even though they aren’t sharing their information with Agent Dunham.

I think that this show takes a few common elements from Alias, especially for all the things that concerned the mystic scholar Milo Rambaldi. The same kind of esoteric science is involved in this show. It’s done very well. I’d actually like to see this type of mystic science have more of an impact on the show. It would suit the show very well. A bit of the supernatural wouldn’t be bad either.

Fringe is one of the best shows on TV right now. It’s getting better and better, and I like it maybe a bit more than X-Files. Why? There are less filler episodes. Most episodes deal with the mythology of the show.

We found out what exactly happened to Peter in the episode Peter. It details how and why Bishop went to the other universe in 1985, piercing the veil between universes for the first time. There were unintended consequences, things that will happen because of this.

It begs the question: would you destroy another universe to save your child?

In this episode, we discover more about the mysterious amber resin that is used in the other universe. This episode takes place in the other universe.

The code for this week is EVENT.

Olivia is getting a check-up in the other world. Walternate comes to see her. He shares with her that the other Olivia, who is actually this Olivia, can travel through the worlds. He wants to perform experiments on her to determine if she can also travel to the other world.

Later, Olivia hallucinates Peter again. Olivia agreed to take the test.

Resin is wrong, amber kills.
Slogan from the other world

In Brooklyn, NY, some guys are cutting up some amber from a containment area. They extract someone and inject him with something. The quarantine area has been breached. There is an alarm. There is some strange gas lingering on them. One of them gets caught in the amber.

This takes place in the other universe. Charlie and Sam are on the scene. Charlie remembers something and watches the footage of the original time when Amber 31422 was deployed. They were after a person.

Walternate meets with Broyles. Broyles learns that quarantine victims are alive and can be resuscitated. He tells the team. They need to recover the brothers. They go to his old place. They find out that he was trying to build a negative matter ring, which creates high-frequency vibrations, weakening the atomic structure of the walls of the bank and allowing him to enter without leaving any trace. Olivia hears something, and they run out. It was the sound of hissing gas.

The apartment explodes. The team is fine, but injured. Medical technology in the other universe is more advanced. Olivia takes some pills while she’s getting looked over.

Sam wants to talk with Joshua Rose’s brother Mathew Rose. Rose makes it sound like they are estranged and Joshua wouldn’t contact him. Olivia is called to the DOD for the tests. Rose was lying. He’s got Joshua in the backyard.

It turns out that the twin that they thought was Joshua is actually Matthew. Matthew came to stop Joshua from robbing bank and got ambered. Joshua has been living Matthew’s life ever since and trying to find a way to break his brother out.

Walternate puts Olivia into an isolation tank. It looks like a Bacta tank from Star Wars. He will be giving Olivia psychotropic drugs. Wow, she’s getting a lot of drugs! After 4.5 hours, Walternate increases the dosage significantly. She goes critical forty minutes later. She winks away and then comes back. Walternate says that this was a success.

Olivia’s mom comes by to see her. She realizes that the twins switched. She goes to see Broyles with her theory. They bring him in and find out that they switched again. The twin pretending to be Matthew Rose has got the right fingerprints and retinal scans. Matthew has been well prepared. He knows enough to cast doubt on her story.

Olivia’s mom comes to see Broyles. She says that Olivia hasn’t been herself. Broyles takes Olivia off the case. She isn’t happy about this because they just found out that Joshua will pull another heist.

Thanks to Agent Farnsworth, who’s some kind of human calculator, Olivia narrows down the banks to 3. When she arrives, she gets tasered by Joshua. The negative matter ring is detected by Fringe Division. Charlie and Sam go looking for Olivia.

Matthew finds Joshua. He wants him to stop. Olivia is found by Sam and Charlie. The whole plan was for Joshua to sacrifice himself so that he gets caught in the amber to set Matthew free.

Dunham goes to see Matthew. She takes a sample and then lets him go to be with his family.

Peter convinces her that she should go back into the tank. That’s the only way to prove that she’s from the other side. On the other side, the Twin Towers fell. She gets there and sees NYC without the Twin Towers, meaning that she’s on the other side. She makes a call. She manages to call Ella. Then, she shifts back. She tells Walternate that nothing happened.
