I’ve never been a Stargate fan. I’ve tried watching SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, but never really found them compelling enough. I actually like the original movie with Kurt Russell, but the series never really interested me that much. One of my friends recently bought all of the seasons cheaply. I thought about watching them, but ran out of time. Scalzi is a creative consultant on this series and it looks pretty interesting, so I’ve decided to give it a go.
Now, before any bitching and hating starts― too late, it’s already started, I haven’t bothered to read, review, or watch any of the Stargate series, and I’m not going to. I’ve watched a couple of episodes and didn’t continue. I tried Stargate Atlantis, but didn’t like it. My friend told me that starting season 4, SG-1 was really good. I can’t really comment on that as I stopped watching the series after a few episodes.
Basically, I’m a new viewer of Stargate, but I’m not a science-fiction novice. It puts me in an interesting spot about reviewing this show. My point of view is from someone who hasn’t watched any of the SG shows, so this review and recap should be interesting to those of you who haven’t watched SG before. For the others, leave some comments and start a discussion.
Is the show good or bad? Read on to find out more.

Brody and Volker aren’t happy with the way that Rush has hidden stuff from the crew. Young isn’t happy either, but he’s trying to see it from Rush’s perspective. They are out of FTL and looking at two planets on which to resupply.
Rush finds that Ginn’s body has been killed. It’s probably Douchebag who did it. It’s Simian. Douchebag is going around shooting people. He gets some weapons from the armoury. Rush is told that Amanda Perry is dead. This means that Ginn is dead too. Eli wants a gun. Douchebag is in the gate room. He has Volker dial out. He takes a hostage. Rush goes after him. The gate closes. Rush immediately finds the hostage. She’s got a mine on her back.
Ginn told the Earth Alliance that Simian is the only one who knows the details about the Lucian Alliance attack. They open the gate and Rush is trying to disarm the bomb. He’s able to diffuse the proximity detector and he throws away the bomb. Park is find. Rush goes after Simian. They need Douchebag alive.
Douchebag uses an advantageous position to snipe at his targets. It’s hard to believe, but Scott is able to talk some sense into Rush. He stops him from going after Douchebag.
Young talks with the Lucian Alliance leader. He says that Ginn and Simian are from the same clan. Eli, Park, Volker, and Brady are working on stalling the countdown clock. TJ is working on the wounded. They managed to save three. On the bridge, they learn that if the Destiny goes into FTL, it has to stay there for at least 4 hours. They will still be in range of the gate. Chloe is still a prisoner working on some equations.
On the planet, they find some large animals. Rush has teamed up with Greer and Scott and he breaks down crying. Rush tells Scott that Douchebag has got a Kino remote. He’ll probably try to make his way back to the other Lucian Alliance people they left behind.
The Destiny drops out of FTL. They’ve got 8 hours.
James is trying to outflank Douchebag. They get caught in a trap. Rush found a way to track Douchebag. James takes the wounded back to the stargate. They find Simian and Greer shoots him, but Rush is being an ass. It allows Simian to shoot Greer. He’s badly injured. Scott has to bring him back to the gate.
Young brings Chloe to the bridge. She says that she can help. They are doubtful, but Young is adamant. Chloe goes in a trance and starts pushing buttons. They stop her but find out that she did something.
Rush goes after all alone. Rush finds Douchebag and takes some pot shots at him. He misses them all. It was a ploy to draw him out. Douchebag gets trampled by those herd creatures. Rush shoots him in the head.
He comes back and finds the gate deserted. He’s 9 hours late, but Scott is waiting for him. He tells Rush that Chloe figured out a new FTL course. She turned the ship around.
