Castle Poof! You’re Dead S03E12 (ABC)

I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.

Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.

So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.

Warning: spoilers ahead

The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.

Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.

ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

Esposito and the ME Laney are sleeping together. They are both called to a new case. Castle is also called, but he’s on the phone with Gina. The murder is at Drake’s Magic Shop. The victim is Zalman Drake, the shop owner. His assistant found him hanging upside down in a water tank. He was strangled and the ME thinks that he was dead before he went into the water. They find a suicide note. He was going to lose the shop. Two weeks ago, he told the assistant Eliza that everything was going to work out. Eliza says that Drake had been leaving the shop often. Last month, some guy attacked him in the shop. This happened before all this started. He told Drake that he should watch his back and that he would sue him for all he was worth.

A suit was filed by Jerome Aspinov. The judge threw it out yesterday. He accuses Drake of reading his mind. He told him that he was thinking about Rita and their weekend together. His wife’s name isn’t Rita. That’s why he is living in a motel. Gina and Castle had words in a restaurant. It’s all over the tabloids. Jerome has got an alibi. The fingerprints on the suicide note match Charles Russell, a low-life street magician with a rap sheet. He was thrown out of the American Magician’s Guild for some reckless tricks. This was because of Zalman. They take him in. He says that he gave Zalman the note. The note is an invoice for services rendered. He wanted something illegal. He wanted C4 explosives. Chuck says that Zalman was designing tricks for Tobias Strange, the hottest magician in town.

They go see Strange. He says that they parted ways last month. Strange says that Zelman had been poached by another magician. He was supposed to be designing tricks for only Strange. Strange tells him to check out Drake’s workshop. Laney confirms that Zelman was murdered. Zalman was asphyxiated.

Castle tells Alexis and his mom that he was fighting with Gina about fighting. The next day, Beckett tells Castle that they found Zalman’s workshop. They are canvassing the Bronx. They have the address. The entrance was disguised as a wall of bricks. Beckett finds it easily enough. They find wheelchair tracks inside. He had a visitor recently. They also find an X painted in green. Zalman walks out of some door. It’s Edmond Drake, Zalman’s twin brother. His brother came because of some money issues. Zalman had half a million dollars to hide. From what Zalman had told him, it was illegal in some way.

Being a evil twin in a magic murder.

They found some traces of C4 at the workshop. They are also looking into the tracks. They got a match to Thaddius Magnus, a professional government protester. They find some rabbit hair in his throat and teeth. There was an organophosphate in his nose and throat. It’s found in jet engine fuel, insecticide, and nerve agents in a low dose.

They go see Magnus. Magnus says that he worked for Zalman, not the other way around. Magnus says that Zalman was probably killed by the guys that he was working for. The last job he made was a mechanical arm to set off something. It could be a bomb. He told Magnus that he was being paid a fortune to get away with murder.

Beckett wants to trace the most recent deaths by explosives. Castle is avoiding Gina. He tells his mom that he isn’t in love with Gina. They don’t want to admit it. Castle says that Zalman at an airport. Both Beckett and Castle figure out that Zalman was hired to kill Christian Dahl, a billionaire philanthropist. All that they have is speculation. They see Zalman Drake on the footage of Dahl. He died in an explosion trying to make the fastest transatlantic flight. Dahl had a hater: his wife, Naomi Weldon Dahl. Last month, Christian caught her having an affair. If he divorced her, she got nothing because of the prenup. If he died, she gets everything. They talk with her. She was at a benefit where Zalman performed. She tells them that all of Dahl’s money has been frozen by the DA. She doesn’t sound guilty. Dahl was being investigated by the SEC. It had to do with a Ponzi Scheme. He was about to get arrested and spend 50 years in jail. It was the perfect way of disappearing. Castle says that Magnus made an automaton to simulate him making the pre-flight checks. He flew the plane via remote control and had Zalman killed because he was the only one who knew the truth.

Castle thinks that Dahl will attend his own funeral. He’s that much of an egomaniac. They find him. During the interview, Dahl is really spooked by something. He seems to be seeing someone. It’s Zalman. Dahl confesses to killing Zalman.

Alakazam, jackass.
Beckett

Strange and Edmond were working to freak out Dahl. Everyone knows that Esposito is with Laney.

Beckett overhears Castle breaking up with Gina. She asks him to get a bite to eat.
