Primeval is a British science fiction drama television program produced by Impossible Pictures for ITV. The first episode was broadcast on 10th February 2007, and was renewed for a second series by ITV, which started on 12th January 2008.
The series follows a team of scientists who investigate anomalies in time and deal with the creatures that travel through. The team of five is led by Professor Nick Cutter, a palaeontologist determined to find his wife, who disappeared while investigating an anomaly in the Forest of Dean eight years previously.
As much as the premise sounds ridiculous, the series is actually quite good. Things really get interesting when the predator from the future arrives in our timeline and wreaks havoc. There is also the enigmatic Helen, Dr. Nick Cutter’s ex-wife, who travels between times. She’s trying to get to the future era, but spends most of her time in the Permian Era.
I actually like the second series a lot more than the new season of Torchwood, and that’s saying a lot. The actors are good in Primeval and they have good chemistry, something that is completely absent from Torchwood. To confound matters even further, Dr. Cutter changed something by traveling into the past. Claudia Brown is missing and no one knows of her. He might have just stepped into an alternate worldline. However, clues are shown that there might be other time traveling agents involved. This show is really getting good.
Most definitely, Primeval is way better that the current season of Torchwood. Primeval is better than the first season of Torchwood. There are better action scenes, the script is better and it’s just plain more entertaining. The team is interesting and although Connor, Cutter and Stephen’s love life is a part of the show, it’s part of the fun. Connor is just the über geek. Stephen is still sleeping with Helen, behind Cutter’s back. Cutter doesn’t know what to do about the Claudia Brown mystery.
I was pretty happy to learn that Primeval would be coming back in 2011. Cutter is still dead, as is Helen, and Danny is missing, but Abby an Connor make it back. Immediately, some of the characters hint toward some kind of conspiracy. It’s been a year since Connor and Abby have disappeared, and much has changed. The ARC facility is now under a PPP, and the new boss is interested in all things relating to the anomalies.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.

5 years ago, a girl found a small dinosaur in her place and gave it a good whack. Then, she flushed it down the toilet. I can just imagine what happened next.
Abby and Connor are being interviewed by Matt. Lester is watching the interviews. He wants them back on the team, but Philip doesn’t want to. Lester manages to get Abby back on the science team, but Philip thinks that Connor is undisciplined. Lester tells Abby. She won’t do it, but Connor convinces her to take it. She’ll take care of the creatures. Connor is leaving the ARC. The new girl Jess gives Connor her apartment keys so that he has a place to go to. It’s kind of ridiculous to let one of the few people who knows stuff about anomalies and has practical dinosaur experience go.
Abby finds Rex in the holding area.
Matt reports to his minder what’s going on at the ARC. It looks like they are looking for a leak of some kind.
Connor arrives at Jess’ place. It’s pretty sweet. He goes through the motions of looking for a place, before he starts looking for creature sightings. He finds an old pal named Duncan. Duncan is a bit of a recluse. He brings Connor to a place where the dinosaurs are supposed to be. Homeless people have been disappearing. Connor finds the remains of a body. Connor calls Abby. Matt is suspicious. He follows her. Jess thinks that Matt is acting strange. She shares her concerns with Becker, who dismisses them.
Back at the docks, the body has gone missing. More construction workers appear. The set a fire to clear out some homeless shelters and the creature pops out. It’s all grown up and it’s the same that was flushed down the toilet 5 years ago. Matt arrives in time. Jess is keeping tabs on Matt. Becker thinks that Matt is being chased or chasing something. He decides to take a team down there. Meanwhile, Matt calls in for help. I wonder why Matt left Abby patrolling the perimeter by herself. She tells Matt that the creature is in the water. She commandeers a dinghy and heads after it. It’s heading for a container ship. Abby goes for the bridge and tells the captain to sound an alarm so that the crew will disembark.
Matt gets cornered by the beast. It’s a Kaprosuchus, or a boar crocodile. Becker shoots it. The croc wakes up in the container. It starts making a lot of noise. The container is breaking loose. The creature is out and about. Duncan runs off. Connor hears him screaming and goes after him. Matt holds Abby back. They get equipped and establish a strategy then go after them. One of the soldiers gets eaten by the croc. The croc is after Duncan now. Connor finds him. Connor stashes him inside a container. The croc finds Connor. Abby finds him and hands him one of the guns. The flare works just like Matt thought it would. Matt, Abby, and Connor manage to shoot it just in time with their AMD guns.
Matt tells Philip that Connor and Abby should be back on full operational duty. Lester finds a loophole to let them back in. He makes Philip back down.
Jess tells Connor and Abby to move in for a while. Lester tells them that they are back on the team. Jess has a thing for Becker.
