Castle Setup S03E16 (ABC)

I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.

Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.

So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.

Warning: spoilers ahead

The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.

Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.

ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

Castle is being dragged away by people in biohazard containment suits. He joins Beckett in quarantine.

36 hours earlier, a security guard discovered a gutted Prius with Amir Ahabi dead in a nearby warehouse. He was shot in the head. He was also tortured. Beckett gets a text and looks disturbed. Castle and Beckett go to make the death notice.

They caught the guy who took the parts from the cab. He says that he saw a guy running off.

Amir had an argument with a cab driver to whom he rented out shifts. McKann says that Amir was flashing a lot of dough. They figured out why the inside of the car was gutted. The unsub was trying to find the cameras. There were pinhole cams in the cab. They ripped out the hard drives and left. No one knew that Amir had installed these cams. Beckett has trouble with her boyfriend.

The cameras were installed by some after-market shop. His last fare was taken around in a circle. They have a still of him leaving the cab. He’s Arab, wearing a fancy suit, and packing heat. Amir had a deposit for $10K. Amir’s wife says that the guy was at the house. He lied to his wife about him. The canvas yielded results. They catch him. He’s a Syrian diplomat. He’s head of security and part of the secret police. His name is Fariq Yusef. Yusef alibis out. They had initially found a cryptic note in Amir’s cell phone, which leads them to a storage unit. They find a crate with C4 and lots of guns. Something on Beckett’s belt starts beeping. It’s warning of some kind. Beckett freaks out and tells Castle to get out. They’ve been exposed to high levels of radiation.

A dude from DHS arrives. Amir was working on a weapons program in Syria before emigrating to the USA. The dude from DHS takes over the investigation.

Beckett tells Castle that Josh is leaving for Haiti for another Doctors Without Borders mission. They are cleared to leave. The radiation came from trace amounts of Cobalt 60. This came from another crate that they believe contained a dirty bomb.

Agent Fallon and Beckett question the wife again. They needed to ensure that she didn’t know anything about this. Fallon pulled a NS certificate. Her house has been bugged.

The money originated from Afghanistan. They have footage of someone removing the bomb. It’s Amir’s cousin Jamal. Castle thinks that there is something else at stake. The money came from a bank outside of Bagram base, used mostly by the military.

Castle talks with the Syrian diplomat Yusef. He had a few chats with Amir to try and make him come back to the weapon’s program. Amir didn’t know where the money came from. The guy is a spook that much is obvious.

Fallon has his panties tied in a knot and wants them both off the task force. Castle snapped a photo of the murder board before being thrown out. They’ve got the same stuff the task force has. The last two places that Amir has been to his driver McKann went to as well.

They locate the truck that was missing from Jamal’s moving company. It’s empty.

Meanwhile, Beckett and Castle find the dirty bomb. They get shot at as well. They get locked in a fridge. They find Jamal’s body.
