I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.

Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.

So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.

Warning: spoilers ahead

The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.

Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.

ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

Two dudes come home and find a dog covered in blood. They find a woman Vicki with nails in her head, kind of like Pinhead.

Damien Westlake is one of the dudes. His wife, Victoria, is the DB. There is a gang tag on the back of the house. The ME puts time of death between 4:30 and 6PM.

Damien Westlake is one of Castle’s old friends from boarding school. He called Castle after having called the cops. Beckett finds him at the scene talking with Damien. Damien is an unpublished writer. Castle is biased and interfering. There was some remodelling happening and a worker was fired. Beckett isn’t happy with Castle.

Ryan and Esposito talk with Amber, who worked for Vicki. She says that Vicki fired the carpenter after he stole her engagement ring. It’s an 11-carat ring. Morris threatened her after she told him that she would call the cops.

They question Morris. He says that she found the ring. Morris’ alibi checks out.

Damien’s father was also murdered 20 years ago. Damien was the prime suspect. Castle hid this information from Beckett. Beckett sends him home. Beckett wants to check up on the cold case of Philip Westlake’s murder.

Beckett talks with Vicki’s ex-husband. He says that she was crying a lot and talked about leaving Damien.

Castle talks with Damien. He inherited everything after his father died. He didn’t get along with his father.

There was a prenup. Since Vicki died, Damien inherits 10 million. Damien spent a lot of money wooing Vicki. Since they got married, Vicki was footing the bill for everything. If they had gotten a divorce, he wouldn’t have gotten anything at all.

They trace the gang tag to Omar Lincoln. They arrest him. He was at the place. Omar says that her husband did it. He heard them fighting. Omar has got an alibi. He was tagging another place and got caught by a store owner.

They find a secret account of Damien’s. He charged some stuff to it, which implied that he was having an affair. They find the girl. Her name is Callie. Vicki came to the club on Wednesday morning. She said that she was going to leave Damien. He doesn’t have any money and that he needs a woman with money to support him. She told Damien about this conversation.

Callie has got an alibi. All things point to Damien. They bring him in. They charge him with murder.

Castle talks with Damien. He says that Vicki showed him an envelope with lawyer’s papers. She handed this to a mailwoman. She was alive when Damien left the house. He couldn’t have murdered her. Damien is released.

Castle thinks that Simon, Vicki’s ex-husband, is a likely suspect. Beckett thinks that Damien hired someone to kill his wife. Castle takes the old case file and says that he will prove that Damien didn’t kill his father.

They go see the appraiser whom Vicki hired. The ring that she had appraised had some fake diamonds. That’s where Damien got the money from.

Beckett talked with the jeweller who replaced the diamonds in Vicki’s ring over a period of many weeks. Beckett goes to see Damien. She wants to see the diamonds. They were worth over 8 million dollars. All of the diamonds are accounted for.

Castle talks with the detective in charge of the case. The sketch looks like Michael Rutherford, a kid from the same school as Damien.

Simon needed cash stat. He’s financially overextended. When Vicki died, he got the house, which is worth more than 5 million. They see Simon kissing Amber, Vicki’s employee. Beckett wants them both brought in.

Amber is the murderer. She killed Vicki because she wanted to get back with Simon. She went to Vicki’s to convince her to leave Simon alone. She wouldn’t. That’s when she killed Vicki.

Castle tells Damien that Michael killed his father. He’s been arrested with new DNA evidence. It turns out that Michael was hired by Damien to kill his father.
