It’s fitting that this show will premiere on Fox, since this was the network of the X-Files. Fringe has got much in common with the X-Files, yet it is different. Fringe is the latest show of wunderkind J.J. Abrams. Like most new shows, the pilot was leaked on the internet a few weeks ago.

Just like a few other shows, like True Blood, I’m happily surprised by Fringe. The production values are great and I’m enjoying it a lot. A lot of money has been pumped into this show, and it just looks fabulous. The protagonists are also an interesting bunch. There isn’t much more that we learn of the Pattern, but Massive Dynamics is most definitely deeply connected with those events, even though they aren’t sharing their information with Agent Dunham.

I think that this show takes a few common elements from Alias, especially for all the things that concerned the mystic scholar Milo Rambaldi. The same kind of esoteric science is involved in this show. It’s done very well. I’d actually like to see this type of mystic science have more of an impact on the show. It would suit the show very well. A bit of the supernatural wouldn’t be bad either.

Warning: spoilers ahead

Fringe is one of the best shows on TV right now. It’s getting better and better, and I like it maybe a bit more than X-Files. Why? There are less filler episodes. Most episodes deal with the mythology of the show.

We found out what exactly happened to Peter in the episode Peter. It details how and why Bishop went to the other universe in 1985, piercing the veil between universes for the first time. There were unintended consequences, things that will happen because of this.

It begs the question: would you destroy another universe to save your child?

I don’t know about this. I’m not that hot on implicating emotions in ways to affect other worlds. It seems a bit unscientific and I would have preferred a better explanation than this.

The code for this week is HEARTS.

At a strange building, some people jump to their deaths.

Walter tries to get Olivia and Peter together, but she isn’t having it. She thinks that Peter betrayed her trust and Bolivia took everything away from them.

Olivia learns that this place is haunted. Peter doesn’t think that they jumped. The six people took some of the patio furniture with them as they fell. They landed directly below the balcony, as if they passed through the balcony. Walter says that the laws of physics are being disrupted. The world is starting to come apart at the seams. There is a tear located at the Rosencratz Building. Walter thinks that it could lead to a vortex. Walter flipped a coin 10 times and got heads 10 times in a row. Walter is extremely worried.

An old lady, Mrs. Merchant, lives in 6B.

Olivia tells Peter that she wants to feel the beauty that Peter told her about that was between them. When they kiss, Olivia tells him that she needs to get some air. She says that he glimmered when they kissed. Olivia is looking at the building and sees a shimmering coming from 6B. It’s Mrs. Merchant’s place. Merchant was sitting down. Her husband was shimmering in front of her. She says that it was his ghost. She says that he has been visiting for a couple of months. She started seeing him a few days after he died. Walter thinks that the woman is seeing the duplicate of her husband from the other side.

Walter is examining the amber. He thinks that they need to think about how to contain the vortex. The only way is to amber it.

Olivia thinks that this is tied to Mrs. Merchant. Peter says that maybe in the other universe, Mrs. Merchant lost the coin toss and died. Mr. Merchant is yearning for her as much as Mrs. Merchant is yearning for him. Walter says that Mrs. Merchant needs to let go of her husband. Olivia and Peter try to convince her. Meanwhile, the FBI has placed an ambering device in the building.

Olivia tries to talk with Alice. Everyone can see the shimmering. Peter can see Merchant. Peter is able to convince her. Broyles was about to detonate the amber.

Olivia comes to see Peter for a drink. They kiss. She stays the night. Walter is still with Nina Sharp.

In the other universe, Lincoln and Bolivia are checking out the Rosencrantz Building. Astrid reported an event. The rift closed on their side as well.
