I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.

Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.

So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.

Warning: spoilers ahead

The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.

Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.

ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

During a trial, a juror freaks out and dies. His name is Joe McKusick. He was poisoned with cyanide. It was ingested. He was poisoned at the trial of Otis Williams. He was caught with Lila Addison’s car and her dead in the trunk. It guaranteed a mistrial and served a warning for the jury at the retrial.

The judge declares a mistrial. Esposito discovered that Tony Muller, juror #4, has gone missing. McKusick’s brother comes to the precinct. McKusick worked at a halfway house. The missing juror was apprehended.

Muller says that he didn’t want to be killed by Otis’ homeboy. He says that the dude is Wardell Williams, the defendant’s cousin. Williams helped Joe out with a cup of coffee. It puts him in the frame.

Castle noticed that Alexis was lying to him so he’s tracking her via a GPS tracker.

McKusick wasn’t killed with poisoned coffee. The killer switched out his medication for cyanide time release capsules. Joe was poisoned 1hr before his death. The pills must have come from his place. Ryan and Esposito find Hank Ponzell at Joe’s place. He was kicked out of the halfway house. He says that Joe let him crash there. He says that Joe had him run errands for him. A few weeks ago, Joe made him deliver $2K to some lady. Beckett and Castle visit Mrs. Jenkins. She says that she did it. She is the court clerk. He paid her to put him on that jury.

When Alexis comes home, she lies to Castle again. She quickly figures out that he has been tracking her through her phone. Beckett tells him that he had it coming.

The Addison family doesn’t know McKusick. Joe was at Lila Addison’s crime scene but he had an alibi the night Lila was killed. Joe bought a burner phone to call the DA. He called to tell the DA that Otis was innocent. He never talked to the DA, he talked to the assistant. He told her that he was going to mail something to her. It turns out that he did in fact talk to the DA for 10 minutes. The DA bursts in to stop the interview. He’s hiding something.

Randalph and Andrea Addison were DA Karnacki’s biggest campaign contributors.

They talk with Otis. They tell him the story. They discover that someone else was driving the car before Otis.

Alexis comes to the station. She says that a few days ago, her friends wanted them all to shoplift something form a store. Alexis didn’t and she felt bad about it, so she went the store to pay for the wares.

Beckett had the seat adjustment buttons of the BMW printed again. Otis told them that he had to use the controls to push the seat forward. Lila was about 5 feet, so it wasn’t her. They might have the prints of the murderer. It’s McKusick’s brother. He’s a bartender at the bar that Lila partly owned. He says that he didn’t kill Lila or his brother. He says that Steven Addison killed Lila, her brother. Steven must have killed his brother. Steven and Lila were coke fiends and needed him to make a drug run. Steve was screwing around with a gun. They hit a pothole and his gun went off. It killed Lila. He told Joe what happened. Joe went and got Steven’s bloody clothes from a dumpster. This must have been what Joe sent to Karnacki. Without the evidence, they only have circumstantial evidence. The Captain goes to see Karnacki. The Captain is wearing a wire and gets everything on tape.
