I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.
Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.
So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.
Warning: spoilers ahead
The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.
Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.
ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

Some dude named Lindsey is swimming in an indoor Olympic pool in the dark.
Castle is reading a scene from Alex Conrad’s new book. He’s coming to town and Castle plans on having him meeting Beckett. Lindsey was a championship swimmer. He was drowned. Zack was living on his own. He was on a partial scholarship. His mom moved to Atlantic City. Zack knew an Olympic swimmer named Rob. Rob helped Zack out and looked out for him. He ran some drills with him last night. Zack had a talk with his girlfriend Bridget. Zack broke up with her because he couldn’t take her to the top. Rob said that Zack was worried about her. Bridget sent threatening messages and has a record. She has 4 big brothers who all have sheets.
Bridget looks like a refugee from the Jersey Shore. She says that Zack had an argument with some guy with an accent. She gives information to a sketch artist.
Esposito can’t find where Zack paid for his tuition and books. He might have borrowed money from the wrong people. Zack’s place was tossed. Castle finds some ampules at his place. They are anabolic steroids. The steroids are untraceable, loaded with masking agents and it’s designed to beat the test. Zack still wasn’t using. He might have been selling them. Bridget’s brothers alibied out.
Conrad arrives. He says that the steroids might be a red herring and the killer might be someone from the old neighborhood.
Muse thievery! What’s the punishment for that, 5 to 10 in mythology jail?

Castle feels threatened that
Don’t confuse me with your reasonableness.
CastleMaybe he’s not the nefarious muse-snatcher you think he is.

Castle comes to the precinct and finds out that Alex met with Beckett last night.
Zack’s prints match those on a stolen car two weeks ago. He used medical supplies to steal cars. He was a car thief.
-He was playing Grand Theft Auto.
-Live-action style!
Castle and Esposito
They find that Zack worked with another guy named Tommy Marcone. They question him. The bartender gives Castle a name, Jimmy Lennon. The guy matches the sketch. He runs an autoshop. They arrest him for GTA. They find a Corvette Stingray with the license plate SWM4GLD. It belongs to Brian, one of Zack’s teammates. They find a steroid ampule in it. They arrest Marcone and he tells them that they did steal it.
The Captain tells Castle that Conrad is interested in Beckett. They question Brian, with his father and their lawyer. Castle thinks that daddy hired someone to take care of business. He’s a hedge fund manager. Brian cashed in a saving’s bond for $25K. They recover the money in Tommy’s belongings. Tommy blackmailed Brian about the steroids. He pretended to be Zack.
When Ben Morris found out that his was being blackmailed, he called Dr. Collabro, who runs a sports medicine practice. They question him. He says that the dad asked him how long the steroids would remain in his son’s system. One of the ways of covering steroid use is faking an injury and taking time off swimming. That’s what Brian is doing. There will be no more drug tests.
Castle takes Conrad to his mystery writer poker game to distract Conrad from Beckett. The writers help Castle figure something out. They question the coach. He’s been in Romania four times in the last year. The coach admits to giving Rob the steroids. They question Rob after serving him with search warrants. He killed Zack.
