Castle To Love and Die in LA S03E22 (ABC)

I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.

Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.

So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.

Warning: spoilers ahead

The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.

Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.

ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

Some guy kills Mike Royce, Beckett’s training officer. He had moved to LA to make a fresh start after losing his bounty hunter’s license. He just flew in. The killer used an expensive silencer. The killer must have brought it from LA. A silencer is easy to take in checked baggage. Neel McCauley, Robert DeNiro’s character in Heat, flew back to LA. It’s obviously a fake ID. He flew back 2 hours after he killed Royce. The captain won’t let her go to LA. She decides to take some vacation days. She’s going to LA.

Beckett flies coach. On her flight, she gets upgraded to 1st class. She’s sitting next to Castle.

Castle rents a Ferrari California and tells her to stay in his suite that the studio comped him. Gene Simmons lives at the address on Royce’s driver’s license. He lives in Simmons’ guest house. He recently helped a girl. The girl is Violet Young. Violet is shooting a commercial at Zenith Studios, where Heatwave is being shot. Violet is missing. She hasn’t shown up for work. Beckett breaks into her place. They find out that Violet went to NYC. They find some surveillance photos. Someone called the cops and they get arrested.

The captain is pissed but they don’t go back yet. Esposito has got a photo of the killer.

-How’s the weather in your part of the world?
-Sunny, chance of ass-kicking.
Esposito and Beckett

Ryan and Esposito are working the case. Laney extracts the bullets and later, they start dissolving. They aren’t made out of ice, but metal.

Violet Young was studying Charles Kelvin, the CEO of some R&D facility. The voice recording that they found allowed access to a safe. In this safe, they find all of the stuff gone except a bullet. Castle surmises that it can melt.

Young was used by McCauley to get the information from Kelvin. After she realized that she was involved in a crime, she contacted Royce. They fled to NYC for home-field advantage.

I’m still amazed, at the depths of your strength, your heart, and your hotness.

There was a guard on duty. He had to be part of the heist. They use some actors to get him into Zenith Studios. Some guys offered him $500 to take a cigarette break. One of them called the other Ganz. His name is Russell Ganz. He’s played by Dominic Purcell, the one who killed Royce. Donald Mannis is the guy hunting for Violet Young. He’s a known accomplice of Ganz. They find Ganz’s location thanks to the concierge. Ganz likes hot women and fast cars. Beckett wears a swimsuit that’s not super sexy, but she still looks smoking hot. Her ploy doesn’t work because she has to protect Castle while he was snooping around. Ganz mentioned that bidding on the bullets stopped twenty minutes ago.

Esposito and Ryan can’t hide that they are helping Beckett. Montgomery says that they need to put this to rest quickly. Castle makes Beckett get in contact with Detective Ziegler of the LAPD. They met him before when they got arrested. They needed his connections to get traces on the numbers they got from Ganz’s phone.

Mannis is about to kill Violet, but Ryan and Esposito are with her. They shoot him. Mannis tells them that the deal is going down at the Santa Monica Pier.

They manage to stop the deal and recover the bullets. Beckett is hot on Ganz’s trail. There’s a close-up of Beckett’s ass as she takes out her gun that’s stashed in the small of her back. It’s incredibly sexy.

She manages to get him. She toys with killing him, but then arrests him instead.

In Royce’s letter, Royce tells her that she’s got something with Castle and that she should go for it.
