The Mentalist Rhapsody in Red S03E22 (CBS)

The Mentalist tells the story of Patrick Jane played by Simon Baker, a man specializing in studying the micro-expressions of people who became involved with trying to catch a serial killer named Red John. Red John killed his wife and daughter. Since then, Jane has been working with the stupidly named CBI, California Bureau of Investigations, a kind of state police.

Robin Tunney plays Agent Lisbon, who is in charge of the unit. Van Pelt is the new agent on the squad. Rigsby has a crush on her. The Mentalist is kind of like the TNT show Psych, but it’s not a comedy, it’s a drama. I’ve enjoyed this series because it’s light and interesting. I’ve kind of come to despise Criminal Minds.

Jane uses his semi-celebrity and his lack of protocol to solve cases quickly, cases in which the CBI wouldn’t be able to come up with answers without him. Each episode has the color red in its title. The Mentalist resembles the show Lie to Me, which premiered in 2009 on Fox. The Mentalist started on the 23rd of September 2008 on CBS.

Eleanor Ortega was killed near a church. She was shot. She was a concert violinist for the orchestra. A 10-year old steals Cho’s car and a witness did a runner. She was the 1^st chair violin. She broke up with her boyfriend months ago. They had to get a restraining order because he kept calling. Orlando Iglesias runs with the Lincoln Avenue Hermanos, he has a low-level sheet. He’s the witness who bolted.

LAPD catches the kid. Shorty is in Cho’s custody. They recovered the car. Cho thinks that it was a gang initiation. The kid uses Van Pelt’s phone to try and escape. I wonder why they didn’t stick him in jail. He says that Orlando changed gangs recently. He’s with the Local Pimps. Van Pelt and Cho find Orlando. Eleanor fired the mom as the manager and hired a new one. They weren’t talking. The mom was the driving force behind the restraining order.

Jane goes to the orchestra. Vincent Mannheiser, the maestro, didn’t want to postpone the opening concert. He’s known as a tyrant.

Shorty stole the car so that he could find a witness in his father’s latest case. The alibi, Jaden, won’t come forward because he’s got warrants out on him. He was joining a gang to get his father out of prison. Cho goes to see the father. He decided to change when his mother passed away. Cho wants to know about Jaden.

They question the mother again. She didn’t want to make up with her daughter.

Jane is back at the orchestra creating havoc. He calls Lisbon to join the fun. He suspects that someone was having a passionate affair with Eleanor. It’s the 2^nd chair violinist. She attacks the maestro a bit later. They talk with Constance. The gun which killed Eleanor was in her car. When confronted with it, she lawyers up. Jane doesn’t think that she did it.

Cho tracks down Jaden, even after being informed by an ADA that they want to make Shorty’s dad flip on some killers in his crew. Cho says that the dad will never flip, because he’ll know that they’ll kill him for this.

This whole time, Jane has been going on about flowers. The case against Rohm has been dropped. The ADA says that he screwed over the case, so this unit is screwed over. They won’t be getting any favours from the DA’s office.

Kieran has an obsession with Ariel, the 3^rd chair violinist. He killed Eleanor and framed Constance.
