True Blood Cold Grey Light of Dawn S04E07 (HBO)

Season 4 poster, via Wikipedia

This series is based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries books by Charlaine Harris. It tells the story of how humans and vampires co-exist in a small southern town. This show has an addictive quality. After the third season started, I bought all of the books and read them. They were quite good, albeit short. The TV series is quite faithful to the books, which is always nice. There are some differences and the ‘adult’ factor makes for something that is interesting to watch on American TV.

Thanks to the books, there will be a lot of material available for the screenwriters for the story arcs in this show.

The series is adapted by Alan Ball. He also produced it. Alan Ball is the man behind Six Feet Under. The setting is interesting as well. Thanks to HBO, the show does have some mature content. It makes the whole thing more interesting.

New Orleans and Louisiana are a hotbed for vampire fiction. Lestat of the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice makes the city his home.

The fourth season is off to a rocking start, as you’d expect from such a good show. Many of the the plotlines from Dead to the World have been integrated into the show. Naturally, there are enough differences to make the show worthwhile to watch, even for people who have read all of the Southern Vampire Mysteries,.

I like to watch True Blood episodes in batches. After I finished reading all of the Southern Vampire Mysteries, I was pretty happy to see True Blood return. You quickly forget how good this show is, but just like all of the previous episodes, this one is an incredible one. The story eases you in before ending with a bang. It turns out that Sookie went missing for over a year and a lot has changed since she left.

Her time in Faerie wasn’t happy, as they use their glamor to manipulate humans. Back on the earthly plane, things have moved on quite rapidly. Tara has left, Jason is a cop, Bill is a King, and Eric is Eric. I can see how they have woven in elements of the book, Dead to the World, into this storyline.

The vamps hanker down expecting the worst from Antonia, who managed to get free and gets her coven together to wreck more havoc. She does and it’s bad. Pam is still decomposing.

Marnie makes it look like Luis is mauling her to a guard, but it was just a ploy to get free. He glamors the human guard. Antonia calls him her dog. He kills her after she dispatches the guards to the garden. She tells him that Antonia has returned. She wants Luis to tell his King.

Pam can’t decide whom to eat first. She goes after Naomi, but Tara is strong. She’s knot a vampire. Pam is caught on tape assaulting Tara. Pam warns Tara that she’ll come for her.

Tara wants Naomi to leave because they are going to come after her.

Jesus and Lafayette are about to leave. The grandfather had to prove it to Lafayette that he had magic.

Both Alcide and Debbie are consecrated into the Shreveport pack.  Alcide is worried about Sookie. They both go looking for her. They find her and Eric screwing in the woods.

Luis comes to see the King. He says he came with a message from Antonia. He shoots Bill and then tries to stake him, but Bill shoots him as well. When faced with the stake, Luis kills himself.

Jason is trying to get Jessica out of his mind. Hoyt comes to see him. Jessica is spending the night with vampire Bill. Hoyt thinks that Jessica is slipping away from him.

Bill tells Jessica about Antonia and what she did 400 years ago. Bill thinks that Antonia wants to pursue her maniacal plan of killing all of the vampires. He alerts his sheriffs to inform the vampires in his areas to evacuate. Those who stay will go to ground in silver, to protect them from the spells of the witch.

Eric and Sookie are still screwing. They move back into her house and pursue lovemaking. Afterwards, he asks her if she would still want him when he remembers his memories.

Pam has someone remove the rotting part of her flesh. She needs six shots four times a day to speed up the healing.

Sam brought Tommy to the hospital. He had food poisoning.

Bill comes to see Sookie and Eric. He brought Eric some silver chains to chain himself to prevent him from walking out in the sun.

Antonia comes looking for Tara. She wants help to exact retribution on the vampires. Tara sees what happened to Antonia.  She agrees to help. They convene as many witches as possible.

Bill is putting Jessica into silver. Pam and Eric do the same. Jessica says that she no longer loves Hoyt the same way as he does.

Sam calls Luna. She tells him off. He goes to see her. Sam realizes that Tommy must have shifted into him. Sam goes to see Tommy. Sam strangles him for a little while. He relents. He tells Tommy to pack his shit and vacate.

Holly has lunch with Andy. Andy is acting strange. He’s hasn’t had his V today. He gets up a few moments later and runs off. He’s on V withdrawal. Lafayette sees Mike’s spirit. She’s French and starts singing to him.

Alcide and Debbie are screwing. Debbie feels bad because she thinks that Alcide loves Sookie. He was acting a bit strange when they came upon her and Eric. He says that he loves her.

Antonia’s coven has assembled. They start their little ritual. Antonia starts to float.

Jason comes to see Sookie. The spell is coming. She runs to Eric. Jason realizes something and starts sprinting away. Some of the vampires who aren’t silvered go out into the sun and burst into flame.

Jessica gets free. Jason is running to Jessica. She goes into the sun.
