True Blood I Wish I Was the Moon S04E05 (HBO)

Season 4 poster, via Wikipedia

This series is based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries books by Charlaine Harris. It tells the story of how humans and vampires co-exist in a small southern town. This show has an addictive quality. After the third season started, I bought all of the books and read them. They were quite good, albeit short. The TV series is quite faithful to the books, which is always nice. There are some differences and the ‘adult’ factor makes for something that is interesting to watch on American TV.

Thanks to the books, there will be a lot of material available for the screenwriters for the story arcs in this show.

The series is adapted by Alan Ball. He also produced it. Alan Ball is the man behind Six Feet Under. The setting is interesting as well. Thanks to HBO, the show does have some mature content. It makes the whole thing more interesting.

New Orleans and Louisiana are a hotbed for vampire fiction. Lestat of the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice makes the city his home.

The fourth season is off to a rocking start, as you’d expect from such a good show. Many of the the plotlines from Dead to the World have been integrated into the show. Naturally, there are enough differences to make the show worthwhile to watch, even for people who have read all of the Southern Vampire Mysteries,.

I like to watch True Blood episodes in batches. After I finished reading all of the Southern Vampire Mysteries, I was pretty happy to see True Blood return. You quickly forget how good this show is, but just like all of the previous episodes, this one is an incredible one. The story eases you in before ending with a bang. It turns out that Sookie went missing for over a year and a lot has changed since she left.

Her time in Faerie wasn’t happy, as they use their glamor to manipulate humans. Back on the earthly plane, things have moved on quite rapidly. Tara has left, Jason is a cop, Bill is a King, and Eric is Eric. I can see how they have woven in elements of the book, Dead to the World, into this storyline.

Antonia is putting her things in place, while the shapeshifters are getting ready for the full moon.

Pam revealed where Eric was to her King. Meanwhile, Sookie and Eric are getting intimate. They both bear fangs, but Northman is a lot older than Bill. He’s got the upper hand and almost stakes him. When Sookie reveals that Bill is his king, he bows.

Bill has him silvered. Sookie doesn’t want Eric hurt. Bill tells her to stay out of it. She says that she isn’t leaving without Eric. Bill has his goons eject her. Eric is in the same cage as Pam. Pam is decomposing. Pam tells him that Eric hates Bill. Eric says that this is treason. Pam is trying to make Eric remember who he is. She has been with him for over a century. He doesn’t want to remember.

Bill skypes Nan Flannagan. Bill recommends to impose the true death on Eric. What a bastard! Nan is happy with his work though.

Mikey set fire to Arlene and Terry’s place. Or was it his father’s ghost? Terry realizes it and wakes up Arlene. Arlene can’t find Mikey. Terry brings Arlene out and the place goes out. They find Mikey outside already. Mikey was sitting in the yard, hanging with the ugly doll. There’s a spirit watching over him. The next day, Arlene blames Rene’s ghost.

Andy is in Sam’s face again. Sam warns him off, but Andy is too psyched out on V. Andy hits on Holly and they decide to go out on a date. Sam calls Tommy and asks him to open up the bar for him. Tommy looks in the mirror and shifts into Sam. Then he freaks out.

Jesus asks his grandfather for help and protection. He wants a sacrifice. They find a rattlesnake.

Naomi comes looking for Tara. She wants to know the whole story. They pash things up. She shows her around. While they’re at Merlotte’s, Jessica serves them, but a few moments in, she sprouts fangs and runs off.

Sookie calls Jason for help. Sookie tells Tommy who is posing as Sam that she can’t work today. Tommy fires her. Sookie goes to look for Jason at his place. She can hear his thoughts. She finds him handcuffed to the bed. She thinks it’s a sex thing, but he thinks that he’s going to turn tonight. Jason hasn’t thought this through. His hands will fall through his cuffs when he shifts into a panther. She frees him and he’s still freaking out. He wants her to shoot him if he tries to go for her.

Like how I’m extra good at sex and shooting?
Jason

He runs off into the night. Sookie follows him with a loaded shotgun. In the woods, he finds Jessica. She came because her blood is still in him. He starts to shift or he has a panic attack. She calms him down, slightly, by having him look at her tits.

-You’re momma was a were-panther?
-No, she had panic attacks.
Jason and Jessica

Sookie is still looking for him. She comes across Debbie and Alcide in the woods. Both Alcide and Debbie tell her that become a were-creature is hereditary, not a virus.

Jason doesn’t turn and is disappointed.

Alcide finds out that Debbie will join the Shreveport pack. He isn’t happy with this development. She says that she needs community. She wants him to come with her tonight when the moon is full.

It’s the full moon tonight. Marnie is trying to evoke the spirit of Antonia with some of her blood. She comes. She has another vision. Antonia was being eaten by the vampire priests. Then she was on her pyre invoking some spell. She animated the vampires’ bodies to make them walk into the sun. Marnie awakens and sees Antonia. She possesses Marnie.

At Sam’s place, Luna comes for a visit. She wants to hook up. Tommy is still wearing Sam’s body. She gets naked pretty quickly. After they screw, he tells her to leave. She leaves before she can see Tommy’s face.

Bill is about to execute Eric. He asks him to release Pam. He’s about to stake him.

Jesus and Lafayette come back with the rattlesnake. The grandfather says that Marnie is being possessed by a spirit. He takes the rattlesnake out of the bag, takes a look at it, then his face shifts into something monstrous. He makes the snake bite Jesus. Then, he puts the snake in the fire. He tells Lafayette to protect him. They looks the doors and leave them alone. In the corner, they Lafayette sees a spirit. It jumps into him. Lafayette starts speaking Spanish and says that he’s Tio Luca. He makes some kind of a spell and Jesus is fine.

Sam comes back and finds Tommy on the floor, passed out. He doesn’t look good.

Pam finds Tara, while she’s trying to make up with Naomi again. Pam bears her fangs and takes her revenge.

Marnie looks at a guard through the video monitors. He goes to see her. Luis is one of the vampires from back when she immolated the other vampires. She dominates him.

Sookie is still in the woods. She sees Eric. He says that the King set him free. They hook up.
