Ringer S01E01 (CW)

Ringer on CW

It’s been a few years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and while at times, Sarah Michelle Gellar was somewhat wooden in her delivery, she cultivated a cult following, thanks to Joss Whedon. I wasn’t expecting much when I started watching this show, but I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, it’s not perfect, but it’s far from being bad. The premise of the show is quite simple. A recovering drug addict meets her twin sister after 6 years. Her twin kills herself and the addict takes over her life, trying to escape a mad American Indian mobster, the FBI, and her life. However, she quickly learns that, while Siobhan’s life may seem glamorous, it’s filled with complexities and danger.

Warning: Spoilers ahead

I liked the show. I didn’t expect the sister to kill herself that quickly, but obviously she had some big problems in her life. The kicker is that either Siobhan’s best friend Gemma tried to have her killed or break her legs (because Siobhan was sleeping with her husband) or something else is going on. Bridget also learns that Siobhan was pregnant. It was good, but it had its faults. It will be interesting to see where this goes. Compared to some of CW other offerings, like The Secret Circle, it’s not mind-numbingly stupid, predictable, and boring, which is a big plus.

* * * * *

A masked assailant is after our heroine. She tells him that he’s got the wrong girl. I guess that Ringer is for Dead Ringer.

9 days earlier, Bridget is in an NA meeting. Her twin sister is Siobhan. It’s Irish and pronounced Shevahn. She’s a witness at a trial. Some American Indian mob boss stands accused of murdering a stripper named Shaylene.

The cop comes back the next day and finds his partner cuffed in the bathroom. He says that Bridget took his gun.

2 days later, Bridget is in the Hamptons, in New York. She meets her sister Siobhan. Siobhan has been married for 5 years and he’s in London meeting his daughter at boarding school. Andrew doesn’t know that Siobhan has a sister. Something happened between them 6 years ago. She did something 6 years ago.

Macawi is free and looking for Bridget.

Siobhan and Bridget go on a boat ride. Siobahn gives Bridget a drink. Bridget wakes up a little later. She finds her sister missing. She finds her sister’s wedding ring in a prescription bottle. Bridget sees something floating nearby. She dives into the water to retrieve it, thinking it’s Siobahn.

She goes back to Siobhan’s place in New York City. Andrew Martin comes home. He finds her slightly different. She calls her sponsor Malcolm and tells him everything. Stepping into her sister’s life is very easy. Her husband bought a penthouse and there is a lot of work being done in it.

Some dude is watching her. She goes to a fundraiser that night. Her husband’s some shady hedge fund guy. The dude ends up kissing her. He’s Henry.

Her husband finds her very different. She usually plays games with him, and he has trouble believing that it’s real.

Sean was Siobhan’s son. Bridget finds a photo of Siobhan and Sean.

She goes to an NA meeting in Brooklyn. Juliette comes back to have sex. She’s Siobhan’s step-daughter.

The cop finds Bridget/Siobhan. He thinks that Bridget is Siobhan. He says that Bridget is a fugitive. Bridget pretends that she’s Siobhan.

Macawi is stalking Malcolm.

It turns out that Siobhan was sleeping with her best friend’s husband Henry. He’s the stalker dude. She tells her to stay away.

Juliette is some kind of trouble. She got kicked out of boarding school of doing coke.

It turns out that Siobhan was pregnant. They go to gallery opening. Andrew tells everyone the big news. Henry says that it’s his baby.

Gemma asks her to come to the loft. She says that she knows with whom Henry is having an affair with. It sounded like she was crying or upset. That’s the where the show started. This looks like an ambush set up by Gemma. She ends up shooting him with the cop’s gun she had stashed there. He was hired to go after her. He had her name and picture in his pocket.
