True Blood Soul of Fire S04E11 (HBO)

Season 4 poster, via Wikipedia

This series is based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries books by Charlaine Harris. It tells the story of how humans and vampires co-exist in a small southern town. This show has an addictive quality. After the third season started, I bought all of the books and read them. They were quite good, albeit short. The TV series is quite faithful to the books, which is always nice. There are some differences and the ‘adult’ factor makes for something that is interesting to watch on American TV.

Thanks to the books, there will be a lot of material available for the screenwriters for the story arcs in this show.

The series is adapted by Alan Ball. He also produced it. Alan Ball is the man behind Six Feet Under. The setting is interesting as well. Thanks to HBO, the show does have some mature content. It makes the whole thing more interesting.

New Orleans and Louisiana are a hotbed for vampire fiction. Lestat of the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice makes the city his home.

The fourth season is off to a rocking start, as you’d expect from such a good show. Many of the the plotlines from Dead to the World have been integrated into the show. Naturally, there are enough differences to make the show worthwhile to watch, even for people who have read all of the Southern Vampire Mysteries,.

I like to watch True Blood episodes in batches. After I finished reading all of the Southern Vampire Mysteries, I was pretty happy to see True Blood return. You quickly forget how good this show is, but just like all of the previous episodes, this one is an incredible one. The story eases you in before ending with a bang. It turns out that Sookie went missing for over a year and a lot has changed since she left.

Her time in Faerie wasn’t happy, as they use their glamor to manipulate humans. Back on the earthly plane, things have moved on quite rapidly. Tara has left, Jason is a cop, Bill is a King, and Eric is Eric. I can see how they have woven in elements of the book, Dead to the World, into this storyline.

The story almost comes to an end, but there’s still one episode left. Jesus uses his magic to exorcize Antonia from Marnie. It’s enough for the vampires to pounce. However, Marnie isn’t finished with them yet as she tries to have her final revenge.

Marnie tells her followers that the vampires are here. Sookie is inside. The vampires have got some automatic weapons. Marnie ends up killing one of her acolytes to prove a point. Marnie pukes out the witch Antonia. Antonia is furious that she murdered an innocent. She says that their time together is at an end. Antonia tries to leave, but Marnie starts to bind Antonia to herself. Lafayette sees this. Marnie eats up Antonia again. Jesus says that Casey has a heartbeat. He wants to try and save her. She’s dead. It was just a ploy. He grabbed Lafayette. Jesus wants to go get some things.

Jason comes and stops the vamp from blowing up The Goddess Emporium. They owe Sookie too much. Pam is pissed. He shows them the barrier spell that Marnie put up.

The two mind-washed vamps come rushing out and attack. The vamps slay them. Bill is getting pissed off. Marnie says the it’s time for negotiation. She asks Sookie to come. In exchange for Sookie they have to kill themselves. They accept. Sookie starts to cry. Pam doesn’t take it and uses a bazooka. It rattles the barrier.

Everyone is fine except Jason, who’s all burned up.

Sam has got a gun on one of the wolves who killed his brother Tommy. Luna arrives. Marcus kidnapped Emma.

Marcus is in bed with Debbie. Emma is nearby. He wants Debbie to be Emma’s mom and he wants to give Debbie some children. She says that she loves Alcide. Emma calls her mom. She’s at Alcide’s place.

Luna finds Emma. Sam and Alcide are here. Sam arrives and they get at it. Debbie tries to protect Marcus, Alcide just pushes her back onto the ground. They fight. Sam has got the upper hand. Sam doesn’t kill him. Alcide ends up killing him after he went for the gun. Alcide abjures Debbie. It’s like a wolf divorce.

Jesus says that Casey’s body will amplify the magic. Jesus warns Lafayette that this shit is going to get crazy. His demon face is going to come out.

Andy is still walking home. He’s having conversations with himself. He sees some lights in distance. They must be faeries. A girl arrives and uses her powers on Andy. Andy wakes up with the Mirella the faerie on top of him. She kisses him and tells him that he’s got vampire blood in him. She asks him to protect her. She touches her lit finger to his. He’s glowing. They screw. It’s a pact of some sort.

Marnie uses Casey’s blood as a scrying medium. It shows her her own death. She forces her followers to form a circle once again. Only Sookie doesn’t join. She pressures her into doing it.

Jesus uses the dagger that killed Casey to carve something on his arm. He asks Lafayette to bind his hands with Marnie’s scarf. Then he rubs a mixture all over the carvings.

Jason is healed up. All of the vampires outside start shambling around. They are being drawn to the barrier. Sookie hears her brother. She knows what’s happening outside. Jason is holding onto Jessica and Bill. Jason asks Sookie to stop this. She comes to her senses and uses her powers. A blinding flash of light pushes all of the witches to the ground.

Eric wants Pam gone. Marnie surrounds Sookie in flame. She’s about to burn up. Jesus uses his spell to expunge Antonia. Jsus changes his face to his demon. Antonia is free. She leaves Marnie. The flames stop. The barrier is down. Eric and Bill pounce. Eric tears out the douchebags heart and uses the vein as a straw. Bill shoots and kills Marnie.

Andy arrives home. He’s been missing for hours. He tells his story to Arlene. She doesn’t believe him. She thinks he’s crazy.

Eric glamors the humans. Jason is full of Jessica’s blood. Marnie’s spirit comes to possess Lafayette.
