It’s fitting that this show will premiere on Fox, since this was the network of the X-Files. Fringe has got much in common with the X-Files, yet it is different. Fringe is the latest show of wunderkind J.J. Abrams. Like most new shows, the pilot was leaked on the internet a few weeks ago.

Just like a few other shows, like True Blood, I’m happily surprised by Fringe. The production values are great and I’m enjoying it a lot. A lot of money has been pumped into this show, and it just looks fabulous. The protagonists are also an interesting bunch. There isn’t much more that we learn of the Pattern, but Massive Dynamics is most definitely deeply connected with those events, even though they aren’t sharing their information with Agent Dunham.

I think that this show takes a few common elements from Alias, especially for all the things that concerned the mystic scholar Milo Rambaldi. The same kind of esoteric science is involved in this show. It’s done very well. I’d actually like to see this type of mystic science have more of an impact on the show. It would suit the show very well. A bit of the supernatural wouldn’t be bad either.

Warning: spoilers ahead

Fringe is one of the best shows on TV right now. It’s getting better and better, and I like it maybe a bit more than X-Files. Why? There are less filler episodes. Most episodes deal with the mythology of the show.

I don’t really know what to thing about this new version of the world without Peter. Good or bad, it looks like it’s here to stay and Peter will soon make a comebackA.

The code for this week is REBORN.

Walter is in therapy. He dismisses what the agents are reporting as minor hallucinations resulting from his self-medication.

Two kids chase another into some tunnel. Something black snakes around their feet and the other one runs away.

Dunham asks Lee who he’s coping while he’s getting up to speed on the files. They get called to Hyde Park. The decomp on the bodies makes it look like they were missing for months, not hours. Lee finds the other sneaker threads at the scene.

While Walter starts examining the body, he hears auditory hallucinations of Peter. He almost freaked out in front of Broyles.

Dunham and Lee find Aaron, the other boy involved. He’s pretty quiet and doesn’t have many friends.

Walter examines the boy. Astrid remarks something strange. Candles are blown out by the corpse because it is pulling high levels of oxygen out of the air. They move it quickly to an incubation chamber. There were spores.

Astrid calls Dunham and the morgue to warn them about the body. Dunham and Lee are too late. Two morgue attendants are dead. Walter thinks that UV lights will work well to eradicate the fungus.

Walter relates to Aaron how his son died. Peter on this side died from a sickness. When he crossed over to the other universe to retrieve the other Peter, he drowned in the lake.

Dunham and Lee go back to the tunnel to eradicate the fungus. Dunham finds some of Aaron’s drawings on the walls. They start burning it.

Aaron starts feeling strange. He’s burning up. Walter calls Dunham and tells her to stop burning. That’s what causing Aaron to collapse.

Aaron says that he goes down into the tunnel a lot. The boy led the others down there. Walter thinks that there is a psychic bond with the boy.

There’s been another attack, 6 miles away from the tunnel. Flame throwers aren’t going to be enough. Thanks to Nina Sharpe and Massive Dynamic, they will administer a toxin to the organism.

They proceed with the injection. The tech is killed. The fungus has got a hold of Lee and the fungicide isn’t working. Walter manages to separate the link. The organism is dying.

Aaron recovers. Walter is going to perform a lobotomy on himself. Olivia arrives in time to stop him. He tells her about the hallucinations of Peter. Olivia made a drawing of Peter. She has been seeing him in her dreams for the last three weeks.
