I used Google Maps to figure out how long the laps were around the park next to my apartment in Banqiao. It’s 650m. I ran five laps tonight. That makes about 3.250KM. It was a good run. I’m going to try and run again tomorrow night. I’ll need to run about 8 laps to run 5.2KM. That’s more than I used to run in 2006 five times a week. That’s my goal, running five or six times a week. I varied speeds. For 200m out of every lap, I ran at my top speed. Usually I did this for the last 2 minutes of my run. However I noticed that my foot is still tender and running very fast makes me feel the bruise. So I won’t run that fast.
My average speed was about 7kph, which is acceptable to start out with. Actually speed only comes into play later on in the training. First it’s to be able to run 5KM a day. Then I’ll work on the speed and maybe run 10KM in one shot once a week. That will be my goal by the end of the summer. I’ll need to buy a slim hydration pack for running. That’s always nice. It’s about 15 laps to run 10KM.
I’ve just seen this and it makes me think. I’ll be in Quebec at the end of August and I could participate in half a marathon. I doubt that I’ll be able to run more than that. 42.2KM is just too much. We’ll see how things go over the summer. I’ll decide in August.
I went outdoor teaching today. It was 35C. It was incredibly hot. I had 4L of water with me. I was using a hydration bladder. It was cool. My Osprey Atmos 25 is perfectly suited for the job. Still, I brought too much water. I like using the hydration bladder. It makes drinking water on the go a cinch.
I hate it how the playgrounds in parks are so dirty. It’s terrible. There are dog turds all over the place. You don’t even want to sit down. Shit all over the place, bums hanging around drinking alcohol, dogs all over the place. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a dog owner myself, but I never let my own dog near a playground.
I stopped at the Carrefour and got some dog food for Spike. It took forever to find the place where they moved it to. I couldn’t decide between PetLife, Purina, Alp and a few others. In the end, I got a 15kg pouch of PetLife and a 4kg of Alpo.
Today was a great day for Spike. He was off leash in the park and stayed near me the whole time. He came when I called and did his business by himself. After he finished, he heeled and we left the park. I put him back on the leash before I exited the park.
My day started in Taipei, at Zhongxiao-Fuxing (忠孝復興站), near the old Sogo store. I spent a few hours in training. Then it was off to Sanchong (新首席) for the first of four interviews.
The school was easy to find and it was small. It’s conveniently located, not too far from Banciao (板橋市), through Sinjhuang (新莊市). It’s only to sub for a week, but my demo went very well. It took me a few minutes to find my way to the Jongzhen Bridge which led me directly into Taipei. I took a wrong turn and ended up on Aiguo Rd. but I managed to find Heping Rd. again.
My second interview took place in Shida (師大). It was a very small school, but with a reading based curriculum. Of the schools I have visited, I’d like to work at this school. It has very small classes, a dynamic owner who studied education and positive reviews from other teachers. They also have a summer camp.
Later, I headed over to the place on Roosevelt Rd Sec 3. where I would be subbing for a few weeks in June. The manager would pass my number around his other schools for more substitution work.
Even though it was pouring part of the day, I got a lot of things done. I was offered a substitution job in Taoyuan for a few days, but I still have more interviews this week. I’ll wait until tomorrow until I make my final decision.
I’m subbing the whole day on Friday, nine hours. That’s going to be interesting. Today was also the first day since January that I had a class for a while. I played a learning game, which the other teacher said that he’d use as well. It’s a version of mega-tic-tac-toe.
All in all, it was a good day. I came home at around 5PM, fed the dog and walked him after I had eaten something. I made a Thai Thom Yam soup, with chicken instead of shrimp. It was good.
