Keys have evolved over the last few years, quite significantly. There are cars which no longer require keys at all, starting at the touch of a button when the key fob is nearby. These days, people like controlling all of their stuff via smartphones, and I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea to control door locks with them. Or not.
The August Smart Lock is a system that allows anyone to enter your home, if they’ve been granted a virtual key.

There’s just something magical about taking something rotten and old, and repurposing it for a new use. Take old doors. There are so many out there that are just ready to get thrown out. Thankfully, they can be remade into beautiful desks.

Architectural Review awarded this door one of its four prizes this year. It’s a sort of curtain door, that kind of magically opens and closes using a system of pulleys and counterweights. We find it extremely cool!

A secret knock can get you into a lot of places. This is the first time that we have seen a knock which could actually open a lock automatically. Steve Hoefer came up with this ingenious way of unlocking his front door to anyone who knows the right code.
