QR Codes in Fashion & Art: Perfect for the Holidays

120911_rg_QRCodeArt_01.jpgWhile not everyone has jumped on the QR code bandwagon, the codes themselves are strangely alluring, since they allow smartphone cameras to capture information quickly and easily. That being said, there are quite a few different ways that QR codes have been used over the last few years that make them unique. Here are some that we noticed recently.

Merry Christmas

It’s been a long week, but I’m glad that it’s Christmas. With the wife in town, we’re having quite a ball, even though it’s raining in Taipei. As for myself, I got quite a few presents from the wife and Mom Rees and I have to say that this is one of the best Christmases ever. I especially like the Cloudveil FirsTurn softshell jacket that she got me. I needed this and I was about to buy myself one.

I’ve had the MacBook Pro 17 since Monday, but didn’t have the time to unpack it. I finally managed to do so today, on Christmas day. I spent part of the evening installing some programs while my wife was taking a nap. I’m currently calibrating the battery. I’ve been off the power plug for about an hour and it says that it’s still got 7:33 left. That’s with the WiFi switched off and the brightness pumped up to the max.

My wife got a nice blue box from Tiffany’s. She was very happy. Our stocking stuffers included some toys for the pets, who are both sleeping the day off. Today, we went to eat at Diamond Tony’s at Taipei 101 on the 85th floor. I had the veal carpaccio and a New Zealand lamb rack, crusted with spices, with pesto and EVOO. Excellent!

Merry Christmas from Taipei to everyone!

Tech Combos to Take While Visiting Your Family

121610_rg_TechCombosHolidays_01.jpgIt’s the holiday season and it’s time to be honest. Although spending time with your family is really precious, depending on your relationship with your parents and relatives, it could get slightly maddening after a few days. This is why it’s important to take some of your tech with you so that you can clear your head and not get too annoyed when your family slowly tries to drives you insane.

Google Snail Mail Holiday Service

If you want to send your friends some cards via snail mail, you can try out Google’s latest offering. They will send out some Gmail holiday themed cards, with a custom message, free of charge. This is only valid in the US.

OK, that’s not exactly true. They will only send cards to addresses in the US. You can be anywhere in the world, but the cards have to be sent to the US. This sounds pretty cool. I’ll have to dig through my contacts to find some people in the US to send some neat cards to.

Oh, I just double checked. They’ll only send one card on your behalf.

Now is Better than Never

Now is better than never.

It’s something that I’m trying to take to my heart for this new year. There are so many things that I need to work on this year. Thankfully, the end of the tunnel is near and I’ll soon be back with my wife in Asia.

Things have been plenty hard for her and me this year. Spending 9 months apart will do that to a relationship, but that’s not really true. There are other factors involved. Still, I miss her.

The holidays were hard. I had an OK Christmas, but I spent New Year’s playing video games. My family was away. My sister and her partner were at his family’s parties for the holidays. My parents were away in Toronto for the holidays. I was pretty much by myself. Most of my friends had their own parties and families to attend to.

So things are looking up and I have a right to feel good again. I can start running again and looking after myself, after some moody holidays.

Beer and Dessert
