AMBER 2 Robot Mimics Human Foot Movements

We all know that humanoid robots roaming the streets aren’t that far away, but there are still plenty of kinks to be worked out of the designs. The AMBER 2 Robot does its best to emulate human foot movements, with the goal of making a machine that can walk on all sorts of terrain.

Drexel University Researchers to 3D-Print Dinosaur Bones

Researchers at Drexel University are planning to print robotic dinosaurs that have been cast from real fossils, in an effort to better understand them. Kenneth Lacovara, a paleontologist, has combined forces with James Tangorra, a mechanical engineer, to learn more about dinosaur locomotion.

Study Shows that Cephalopods Travel Faster in Air than in Water

A new study, using high-speed photography, shows that squids can save energy by flying rather than swimming. Some species of Cephalopoda can launch themselves into the air using the jet-propulsion system that they use to swim. Until now, researchers have thought that this sort of ‘flight’ was used by Cephalopoda to avoid predators, but the new study shows that the animals actually conserve energy when using this way to travel long distances.
