The 135mm F/2 Defocus lens is a hard animal to tame. It does take great pictures, but focus is a struggle. I’ve found that it’s best to operate this lens manually, as the autofocus is slow and unprecise. However, it does lead some great photos, like this one of my compact SRAM Red crank.

I was extremely busy this week. It was the last week of classes and while they ended this week, it was time to setup my summer. I never really take any time off from teaching. I’ll be teaching the whole summer, which is good. I had been wanting to go out for a ride for a while, but I only managed to do so on Friday, when I had some free time. This week, I was also covering a few extra posts, which made training in the evenings impossible.

A great long form article about the Stieg Larsson Millennium books. The books were released a while ago in French, so I read them all. I recently also watched the Swedish movies that were made based upon these books.
The article is about the Larsson family and Stieg’s literary estate. His live-in spouse, to whom Larsson wasn’t married, has no rights to the books or the movies. The rights, money and estate are now managed by Larsson’s somewhat estranged father and brother. However, Gabrielsson retains Larsson’s laptop, which contains ¾ of a 4th Millennium book. It has been surmised that since Larsson worked on more than one at a time, that a good portion of the 5th and 6th Millennium books is also written. Initially, Stieg Larsson wanted Millennium to be a series of 10 books.

Last night, I took the time to watch The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, or the more appropriate title, Men Who Hate Women. Having read the books last year in French, I had been trying to find the movies. It took a while for them to be released and for me to find them. Yesterday, I also discovered that all three Stieg Larsson books were made into movies last year in Sweden. I’m sure that an English version is under way, but I have to say that the Swedish film is pretty good.

It’s official, Asterisk*Cycles is now selling Velocite Bikes‘ full lineup of products, from complete bikes to components.
One of the best examples of what Velocite does is the Millennium, their top of the line titanium road bicycle. This frame is bombproof and weighs 1,250 gr.
Right now, I’m really getting excited because the Magnus frames are going to in stock again in March. Velocite sold out their first batch of frames back in December. What is the Magnus? It’s an aggressive BB30 carbon fiber monocoque road bicycle.

With the rainy weather over Chinese New Year, that just started when the build of my Velocite Millennium Elite SRAM Red bike was completed, I stayed indoors most of the week. I regretted not purchasing a trainer. The rain finally let up yesterday and I decided to go out on a ride tonight.
It felt good, but I was slow, compared to my fastest time last year. I wanted to leave earlier, but I had to ready the bike for the ride. This meant transferring some of the gear over. It took longer than expected.

Velocite Bikes has just released their updated price list. Now that they offer SRAM, I’ll deck out my Magnus with Red. It will be followed by a Millennium shortly after.
