Sony Xperia Z: Let the Phablet Wars Begin!

While the perfect smartphone size hasn’t yet been nailed down, manufacturers are happy to offer larger phablets or tabphones to consumers, who seem to be lapping them up because of the desire for a convergence device – one that can serve as a phone and a tablet at the same time. Despite not being particularly pocket-friendly, Samsung’s Galaxy Note series has been quite popular. That’s likely the reason why Sony is offering their new Xperia Z with an oversize 5-inch screen.

Acer Iconia B1-A71, The $150 Tablet

Don’t get me wrong, I love my iPad, but it is quite an expensive device. The iPad Mini isn’t that much cheaper, at about $150 less for the similarly-specced version. Then again, you could always get Acer’s new Android tablet, which will set you back only $150 (USD).

A Very Affordable DIY IKEA Ribba Tablet Stand — IKEA Hackers

011513_rg_RibbaTabletStand_01.jpgOne of the reasons I’m a bit wary of buying dedicated stands for my tablet and smartphone is that technology seems to evolve quite quickly, and there’s no telling when your devices will no longer fit in them. Hacking one seems like a sensible option, since it’s low cost, you get to customize the stand to your liking, and you can always modify it to fit a newer device.

Gorilla Glass 3 Coming: Even Gorillas Have Trouble Breaking It

Okay, I made that part about gorillas up, but it’s easy to forget the usefulness of Gorilla Glass. A lot of the smartphones and tablet people use everyday are covered in this durable material. That’s one of the reasons that the screen on your phone won’t break if you drop inadvertently. Granted, it won’t protect your phone from any drops, but I’ve been quite happy at how scratch-resistant it is.

Qooq Tablet: Now We’re Qookin with Qrisco!

I’ve always been somewhat perplexed by users having more than one tablet. Still, I have to say that a smaller tablet, perhaps an inch or two smaller than the iPad Mini, could be handy to tote around daily. The oddly-spelled Qooq tablet doesn’t fit that particular bill, instead being designed specifically for kitchen use.

Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch Ultrabook Lightens up with Carbon Fiber

Ultrabook is definitely one of those buzzwords that has been overused in the past couple of years, as PC manufacturers try to put their own spin on MacBook-like laptops. Now, with the release of Windows 8, there are a plethora of new ultrabooks that offer some pretty cool options.

JLab Bouncer Bluetooth Mobile Speaker: Affordable Wireless Beats

I have to admit that I use my Bluetooth speaker almost daily. Whether it’s to listen to music while I take a shower, or go to sleep while listening to an audiobook, I definitely get the most of this kind of device. That being said, most of these kinds of speakers sell for quite a bit of money. Check out this one which won’t break the bank.
