After taking Monday off, and not getting up early enough on Sunday for my group ride, I decided to go out tonight. I was planning on going out at around 4PM, but it rained, so I had to wait until 6PM. The roads were semi-dry at that point.
Note to self: don’t go cycling after a thunderstorm, you just end up all muddy and covered in water.
Naturally, I went out right after the thunderstorm. I had waited about an hour or so and thought that the paths would be somewhat dry. I was wrong. That didn’t stop me from riding.
One thing that almost made me reconsider was that one of the on-ramps from a bridge was half covered in bathroom tiles. How do bathroom tiles get when they are wet? Slippery, very slippery. Thank God that I wasn’t going fast. I was almost at a standstill when I slipped. I caught myself on the railing. While I continued riding, I debated with myself if I should cut my ride short, for safety reasons. It was already dark and I still had 30 km to ride. In the end, I didn’t but I won’t be attempting that again.
Today I had some time off, so I went to the Giant shop to repair my disc brake. The disc was a little bent. It took about 20 minutes and the service was free, even though the bike was bought in Canada.
Today, right after work, I went into Taipei to check up some leads on some bicycle shops. Before committing myself to a Wilier frame, I wanted to make sure that there wasn’t a better deal to be had.
After yesterday’s ride, I wanted to go out and do about 100 km, but I got started too late and didn’t want to exhaust myself as I plan on going out again tomorrow. Monday won’t be a rest day. I felt pretty good and started to pace myself, even though I rode the first 25 km in 34:40.
Even though I felt like having a rest day and a nap, my better sense prevailed and I drank a hot milk tea to wake me up. Initially, I wanted to go out twice today, but I went to bed a wee bit late and this morning, someone was doing some construction in their apartment. Needless to say that the last few hours before I woke up for real weren’t restful.
After taking a forced rest day, I hopped back onto the bike this afternoon. I started a bit later than I wanted, but in my mind, I avoided the worst of the scorching sun. Had I known that there was this much wind, I might have chosen a different route. Well, in retrospect, I think I knew that the wind was going to be pretty bad.
