Supernatural Are You There God It’s Me Dean Winchester S04E02 (CW)

Supernatural tells the story of Sam and Dean, who are hunters. They hunt demons. This is because their mom was killed by a demon. This season, the boys discover more about their past. In the last season finale, Dean was sent straight to hell by Lilith. He had sold his soul to save Sam.

The plot of the series has evolved over time, beginning initially with the Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean, looking for their father throughout most of season one. Once they find him, the show becomes about killing Azazel, the yellow-eyed demon responsible for the death of their mother. This is accomplished, but not until after Azazel’s plans are completed and a door to Hell is opened, although only momentarily, releasing a horde of demons into the world. This event also sees the death of Sam, who is subsequently resurrected by Dean selling his soul at the end of season two. In the third season, the plot of the show focuses on trying to save Dean from his deal. Along the way, they meet a demon named Ruby, who has an interest in Sam and claims to be able to help save Dean, as well as Bela Talbot, an “acquirer” and seller of occult objects who is constantly a thorn in their side. The brothers eventually manage to track down the demon who holds Dean’s contract, a powerhouse named Lilith who also wants Sam dead. However, Sam and Ruby ultimately fail to save Dean, who is killed and sent to Hell. Season four begins with Dean, miraculously returning from Hell, awakening dazed and confused in a grave. He was apparently rescued by a supposed angel named Castiel on orders from God. Sam on the other hand, has further developed his abilities with the help of Ruby during the months that Dean has been dead. It is soon revealed that Dean was revived to help stop Lilith’s plan of breaking the 66 seals, which would let Lucifer walk free once again. As the series continues, Dean learns of Sam’s newfound ability to excercise demons using his psychic abilities. They have a heated argument, where Dean confesses to Sam: “Cas told me, if I dont stop you, he will. That means God does not want you doing what you are doing Sammy.” [From wiki]

I don’t really remember what made me stop watching this show, but a friend was extolling its virtues and I watched the fourth season premiere with her recently. Actually, I do remember. I really got tired of the repetitiveness of the episodes. This seems to have changed drastically since the last few seasons though. Supernatural has matured into a really good show, with its own flavor and great plots. The plot for season 4 is really good and I’m glad to see God involved.

Warning: spoilers ahead.

I was convinced by a friend at how good Supernatural was. I watched the first episode with her and agreed that the new Supernatural is really good.

Castiel is an angel of the Lord and he brought Dean back from Hell. God commanded it. Just watching the intro gave me shivers. It’s pretty powerful stuff, involving the forces of Light for the first time in the open.

Olivia is sleeping. She feels the chill. The temperature of the room she was sleeping in suddenly dropped. She gets some hunter weapons. Bobby just left her a message. A man appears. He seems dead. She uses salt. A girl is behind her and kills her.

Bobby says that the only thing that could save him from the Pit was an angel. This stems from his research. Sam says that this means that God exists, and they have proof. I mean, it’s obvious that if they believe in demons and Satan, they should also believe in the divine.

They start researching angels. Sam goes out to get some pie and meets Ruby. She just wanted to confirm that Dean was saved by an angel. Ruby wants to make herself scarce. Angels smite first and don’t ask questions later. They wouldn’t care that a demon is helping them.

Bobby is trying to reach Olivia Lawrie. Sam and Dean follow. They find her dead. There was apparently some spirit activity in the vicinity. Bobby calls some hunters in the area, but they aren’t answering. Something is up. Jed is dead. Two more are dead. They make their way to Bobby’s place. The ghosts are already after them yet they don’t know it. While using the restroom in a gas station, Sam notices the temperature drop and sees Agent Hendrickson behind him. He blames him for his death. He proceeds to beat Sam silly, but Dean shoots him with salt round before things go out of control. They go to see Bobby.

The same thing happens to Bobby. Two girls are after him. Dean sees Meg, the real Meg. A demon possessed her, cut her hair and dressed her like a slut. She blames him for her death. Dean notices a strange brand on her hand. When her sister saw her body, she killed herself.

Sam finds Bobby. They get rid of their ghosts. Dean takes care of his. Sam draws the mark that he saw on Hendrickson’s hand. Bobby has seen this before. He takes a few books and they head into a special demon panic room that Bobby has built. The room is solid iron, completely coated in salt.

The brand is the mark of the witness, the witness of the unnatural. These ghosts were forced to rise. Someone rose them, they are in agony. Whoever it was, used a spell so powerful that it branded the ghosts’ souls. It ties into the Witness Prophecy, it’s a Sign of Revelations, of the End Times, the Apocalypse. The Rise of the Witnesses is a mile marker on the road to Apocalypse.

Bobby has got a spell to send the witnesses back. The spell has to be cast over an open fire. They come upon the ghost of Ronald, the guy with the laser eyes. He’s dust. The twins are still there. They are all still there. They only dissipate. Hendrickson grasps Dean’s heart but Sam shoots him. Bobby starts the incantation. They are rapidly running out of salt rounds. Just as the ghosts have the upper hand, the spell starts to work. The ghosts are banished.

Castile has a talk with Dean when everyone is sleeping. He says that Angels are Warriors of God. He says that they are here because big things are afoot. The Rising of the Witnesses is one of the 66 seals, which are being broken by Lilith. He says that 20 other hunters are dead. The seal is broken. The seals are locks on a door. Once the last one is broken, Lucifer walks free on earth. Castile says that they are here walking on earth for the first time in 2000 years because Lucifer is going to be among them. There are other battles. Six of Castile’s brothers died in the field this week. There is a bigger picture. He asks that Dean pay him more respect. He brought him out of hell, he can throw him back into it.

Dean wakes up.
