I have mentioned before that I had to use my own material and lesson plans for my class at a language school. I found this excellent lesson plan on forumosa. Thanks to Fox.

About half of the time, we go over the book, which is American Headway 2. It’s good, but a bit dry sometimes. These plans add a lot more fun and make all students interact in English, which is the plan for these types of classes. At best, I try to schedule between 60 to 45 minutes for these plans, but I always run out of time. My guess is that their are best suited for 90 minutes.

The way I used it, is that I went over the sheets with the students after I had handed them out. I explained all of the more complicated words, like franchise businesses and independent owned companies. I explained what they had to do in detail and then paired them up into teams and walked around and gave some hints and advice.

Once they had completed the work sheets and seemed pretty confident, I asked them to present their ideas to the class. I leave this to the end, so that it can be skipped if there isn’t enough time.
