In Treatment Week 4 Jake And Amy Thursday 5PM S01E19 (HBO)

This is a surprising show on HBO. I was really dumbfounded when I discovered that there will be 43 episodes of In Treatment. Wow, 43. These are only half hour shows, or almost half hour shows, but still. That is just incredible.

In Treatment is based on the Israeli series Betipul. Gabriel Byrne plays Paul Weston, a psychologist trying to deal with his patients while going through some personal problems. Each show focuses on a different patient. Mondays feature Laura, an anestheologist infatuated with Paul. Tuesdays feature Alex, an ex-fighter pilot traumatized by events that happened a few years ago. Wednesdays feature Sophie, a suicidal teenage gymnast with Olympic aspirations. Thursdays feature Jake and Amy, a couple in couple’s counseling. Fridays feature Gina, Paul’s own therapist and mentor that he stopped seeing 8 years ago for some reason.

I’ve always loved psychology. This show really feeds that need. The sessions are almost verbatim of what would happen in a real session. This show is about characters, not actions. It’s a very smart show and I am also very surprised that Marky Mark is the executive producer. Marky Mark has had success with Entourage so it makes sense that he decided to try out other projects.

This is a great show. I really liked it. I find that it’s best to watch it a few episodes at a time. I recommend this show.

In this session we learn more about Jake and Amy’s past. We learn how things started between them. She left her husband to be with Jake. Even though sessions aren’t always positive, Jake and Amy always come.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Paul is cleaning up his library. He comes upon a photo book. Amy comes in. A few seconds later, Jake walks in. Paul gets an emergency call. It’s about Sophie. Sophie is discharged from the hospital.

Paul remarks that they are always at session. No matter what happened the week before. After last week’s session, Jake left their child Lenny by himself. He went out. He told him that Amy would come home later. Amy came home. Jake didn’t come home until the next morning.

Paul wants to know if they think that their relationship has gotten worse since they started therapy. Amy knew that Jake was with his friends. They argue about Jake’s friends, his pot smoking and her drinking.

Jake says that he doesn’t feel good enough for Amy anymore. He isn’t good enough for her to want a child with him. Paul tells him that they are afraid to stop arguing together. They are afraid to be together. Paul says that there are casualties in their war, their son Lenny.

She started taking guitar lessons after she saw Jake perform one night. She found him sexy. Jake then asked her to stay after class one time. That’s how their affair began. Jake began seeing Amy while she was still married to someone else.

They went riding. He made her get off her horse. He told her to take off her clothes. Jake got off and they made love. She couldn’t help herself. She took this from a writer. Jake says that after a lesson, they got drunk and f*cked in her car. Amy says that it was forbidden and messy, it turned her on.

They start talking about Ben Reeves. Amy says that Jake is a quitter and that he doesn’t have a quarter of the strength that Ben Reeves has. Jake like the psycho that he is, taped what she said. She denies saying it before he plays it back to her.

Amy leaves. Amy says that she isn’t coming back home tonight. Jake asks Paul if he thinks that Amy loves him. Paul says yes. He thinks that Jake loves her too. Paul says that love isn’t the problem. Paul asks him if he has ever recorded their fights before. He has done so. He wants to understand what is happening to them.

Jake doesn’t think that they will come next week.
