Torchwood is a science fiction drama television program, created by Russell T Davies and starring John Barrowman and Eve Myles. It deals with the machinations and activities of the Cardiff branch of the fictional Torchwood Institute, who deal with supernatural occurrences. An initial 13-part series was commissioned by the BBC as a spin-off from the long-running science fiction program Doctor Who with which it is closely interlinked.
I’ve been busy watching the Tour de France and also playing Dragon Age II, so I haven’t had much time to watch shows, but at least I’m making time for Torchwood. It’s been a while since the last series, and I was wondering if Torchwood would be back. They had also killed off most of the team, so you always wondered in what form they’d be back. The new American additions to Torchwood aren’t that impressive. They are actually quite annoying, but the whole premise of Miracle Day is somewhat tantalizing. I’ve watched 3 episodes, and we still have to find out what exactly is going on.
The first three episodes were pretty good in my opinion. I watched them all in one go, so it’s safe to assume that the story is good. The whole collaboration with an American TV channel is somewhat strange, but it makes for an interesting setting since they spend a good amount of time in the US.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.

There is an American newscast about Oswald Danes, who will get executed. He was convicted of the rape and murder of girl. He is slated to die by lethal injection. His death is pretty painful. Someone must have changed the injections.
The word Torchwood has been sent to many US intelligence desks. Some guy named Rex is almost killed. Some people who are meant to die don’t die.
Gwen has a bad dream that night. She’s in Wales with Rhys and their child. It looks like they are in seclusion somewhere. When someone knocks at the door, they grab their guns. No one knows they are here.
Rex is still alive. A doc tells Rex’s colleague that everyone is still alive. It’s been 24 hours that there has been no death in the hospital. The doc called a few different hospitals, all of them had no deaths in the last 24 hours.
“Miracles got easy.”
The American media calls it Miracle Day, the one day that no one has died in the USA.
Danes is waiting to get released.
The girl is Esther and she’s working with the CIA. Something strange happened when they tried accessing some Torchwood files. It was like some malware was taking over and erased everything. Now, Torchwood isn’t a priority anymore. They’re all supposed to be dead.
Gwen’s dad is sick and in hospital. She needs to go back.
Esther goes to check on the files manually. There are some hardcopies that haven’t been destroyed. 456 keeps coming up. She finds the file and photos of Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper. Jack comes up on her. He tells he to come with her. She runs. The old guard is dying, and Jack shoots a dude in the neck. He’s got a suicide bomb on his body. They jump out of a window into a fountain. They make it away safely.
The photos were from 1939 and 1925 of Jack. He looked the same. Esther thinks that it was Jack’s father. Jack hurt his arm.
Jack is the one responsible for the malware and the retcon that Esther just drank. Retcon is a smart amnesia.
Jack poses as an FBI agent and is at the hospital. They find some man who was disintegrated by the blast, but he’s still alive.
“He’s not indestructible, just undying.”
Jack proposes to cut off his head. Dr. Juarez objects, but the other doc goes ahead. The guy is still alive with his head cut off.
Gwen arrives at the hospital. Her dad is still alive because of Miracle Day. The Earth has got 4 months before the society will collapse because of the lack of food and space. As usual, Rhys and Gwen fight over Torchwood.
Esther wakes up all bruised at home. Jack is also bruised. This isn’t supposed to happen to him. Back at work, a coworker whom she tasked on finding info on Torchwood found the files. She talks with Rex. The email mentioning Torchwood arrived at the same time as the last death on planet Earth. Esther gives him the names of Gwen and Jack. She also mentions UNIT. He wants Esther to book him a flight to the UK.
Rex is trying to find Gwen Cooper. They find her threw Andrew. When he arrives, he collapses. They tie him up, but Rhys is shit at it, so he gets free. There is a helicopter heard in the distance. It fires a guided missile at the house. It goes throughout he house. Gwen gets the shooter with a handgun. That’s unlikely.
Jack arrives and shoots the helicopter, which goes away. Jack met him on the flight. They are chased by it. Gwen uses a Stinger missile launcher to take the helicopter out.
“Who the hell are you people?”
Danes is released.
Jack has become mortal. He doesn’t mend. He’s human again while everyone isn’t. Rex outplayed them. They are arrested. Nope, they are renditioned. He’s extraditing them to the US.
