In Treatment Week 7 Laura Monday 9 AM S01E31 (HBO)

In Treatment will last a total of 43 episodes. In Treatment is based on the Israeli series Betipul. Gabriel Byrne plays Paul Weston, a psychologist trying to deal with his patients while going through some personal problems. Each show focuses on a different patient. Mondays feature Laura, an anesthesiologist infatuated with Paul. Tuesdays feature Alex, an ex-fighter pilot traumatized by events that happened a few years ago. Wednesdays feature Sophie, a suicidal teenage gymnast with Olympic aspirations. Thursdays feature Jake and Amy, a couple in couple’s counseling. Fridays feature Gina, Paul’s own therapist and mentor that he stopped seeing 8 years ago for some reason.

I’ve always loved psychology. This show really feeds that need. The sessions are almost verbatim of what would happen in a real session. This show is about characters, not actions. It’s a very smart show and I am also very surprised that Marky Mark is the executive producer. Marky Mark has had success with Entourage so it makes sense that he decided to try out other projects.

This is a great show. I really liked it. I find that it’s best to watch it a few episodes at a time. I recommend this show. I like watching it in batches. Since the show only lasts between 21 and 29 minutes, this is easy to do. My favorite sessions are with Sophie. Jake and Amy’s sessions are harder to watch, since most married couples have gone through problems at some point in their lives. But they are enlightening.

In this session Laura is absent. Paul talks with his eldest children Rosie and Ian about what is happening to him and Kate. He didn’t plan this. Rosie just put it out there and Paul had no choice but to acknowledge it. Right after, he talks with Ian and tries to come clean. The discussion isn’t very pleasant, but it’s starkly honest.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Paul is writing something. Rosie is watching him. She comes to talk to him. She says that Ian is being an asshole. Ian is Paul’s eldest child. He washed her iPod. Paul is surprised that Ian is actually doing laundry. She gets an SMS and has to reply immediately. For a few seconds, she is unavailable. She is texting a friend named Noah. She met Noah at the shelter. He was being treated there. He’s 18. When he wants to learn more information, she leaves. She says that Paul always asks the wrong questions.

Rosie is talking about taking off with someone, he would stop her. Like taking off to Rome. She is implying that she knows about what has been going on with her mom and Paul. She called Kate and that she heard some strange guy who called her babe. Rosie says that she is sleeping with another man. She wants her dad to react or to fight. She wants to know why her mom is doing this. She wants Paul to say that he will fix this. She leaves.

Ian arrives to get a pillow. Paul asks him to come to Max’s baseball game. Ian starts to talk about Chloe. He just went back to college. He wants to know how many girls he has slept with. Ian says four and five. He goes out with girls. He only goes out with them for a few months. He went out with Chloe for nine months. He cheated on Chloe with Maggy, a violin player.

Paul says that he has been having problems with Kate. They are trying to work on them. Without wanting to say anything, Ian guesses that his mom is having an affair. Paul tries to deflect this by saying that he has met someone, but that he isn’t having an affair. Ian says that they have been married a long time. Maybe it’s time that he had some fun.

Ian says that Kate has a martyr complex. Paul says that his mother deserves a bit more respect. Ian says that it isn’t about him, it’s about Paul. What does he want?
