The Mentalist Red Badge S02E03 (CBS)

The Mentalist tells the story of Patrick Jane played by Simon Baker, a man specializing in studying the micro-expressions of people who became involved with trying to catch a serial killer named Red John. Red John killed his wife and daughter. Since then, Jane has been working with the stupidly named CBI, California Bureau of Investigations, a kind of state police.

Robin Tunney plays Agent Lisbon, who is in charge of the unit. Van Pelt is the new agent on the squad. Rigsby has a crush on her. The Mentalist is kind of like the TNT show Psych, but it’s not a comedy, it’s a drama. I’ve enjoyed this series because it’s light and interesting. I’ve kind of come to despise Criminal Minds.

Jane uses his semi-celebrity and his lack of protocol to solve cases quickly, cases in which the CBI wouldn’t be able to come up with answers without him. Each episode has the color red in its title. The Mentalist resembles the show Lie to Me, which premiered in 2009 on Fox. The Mentalist started on the 23rd of September 2008 on CBS.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Lisbon is still in therapy for her officer involved shooting. The more she drags this along, longer it will take. The doc won’t sign off on her. Lisbon gets called to a case. They find a body hidden. He was shot three times. He was a serial child rapist. Lisbon sent him to prison last time. She isn’t bothered that he’s dead.

Jane discovers that when Lisbon was in the SFPD, she worked under Bosco. She arrested the child rapist McTier. The victim’s last father promised to kill McTier.

Jane and Van Pelt question McTier’s fiancé. Tonya says that he had a fight with his boss last week. Bill said that he had it in for him. Tonya has got a daughter. Jane says that Tonya met Bill in a shopping mall. Jane has got Bill’s MO down. Jane knows that Tonya was starting to suspect something, since lately he was asking to spend a night away with Emily.

The gun that killed McTier has got Lisbon’s print on it. It was found in a dumpster near the body. Virgil tells Lisbon that she is off the case. Bosco has it now. He immediately wants to ask her some questions. Jane just walks in. She walks away when Bosco wants to schedule a polygraph.

The rest of the team is questioning what to do next. They decide to continue investigating McTier. Jane meets Lisbon. He says that she knew that she was lying about watching TV the night that he was killed. She says that she can’t remember. Jane proposes to hypnotize her, but she doesn’t want him in his head.

Dyer comes in. He doesn’t have an alibi. He blames Lisbon for the rape of his daughter. Lisbon decides to take the polygraph. She fails the polygraph and is immediately relieved of duty. This smells like a scam. She has to give in her badge and her gun.

Van Pelt and Cho question McTier’s old boss. He says that he had a fight in the shop with Dog. That’s why he was fired.

She goes to see Carmen. She says that she doesn’t remember the night of the killing. Her father used to black out when he binge drinking. McTier’s parole officer gave her the head’s up that he was in Sacramento. She goes to see Jane to get hypnotized.

Bosco warns Lisbon’s team off. McTier had a cellmate for two years named Dog. He’s Tonya’s brother, David Charles.

Jane and Lisbon go to her place and he hypnotizes her. She has trouble to remember what happened on Tuesday night. There is a blank screen in her mind. Jane says that it is a little weird. She starts to cry and asks Jane to leave.

Cho and Rigsby get Dog. Dog say that Lisbon paid him to bring McTier to the alley. He didn’t see her. It was all through TXT. He got paid $10K. Lisbon, Rigsby and Cho take it up to Bosco, but he won’t let them investigate. She kind of freaks out and leaves. She doesn’t look like herself. She isn’t under any sort of control. She throws a chair through a window. Bosco offers to take her, but she doesn’t want anything to do with him. She leaves.

At home, Lisbon is drinking and using pills. She is dancing to some music.

Van Pelt discovers that the same holding account in the Caymans that paid Charles paid out 1 million to someone else, probably the shooter. They can’t trace it because it was closed a short while later.

Minelli and Jane are worried. Minelli asked Carmen to drop by to see Lisbon. She is drunk and waiving a gun around. She blames him for messing her head up. She thinks that she killed McTier. It looks like a scam that Jane and Lisbon set up to trap the real killer, Carmen.

Carmen is trying to implant some memories into Lisbon’s head. He makes a fatal mistake and tells her about a detail that only the killer would know. Jane is hiding on the stairs. Lisbon was doped up with some drugs in her coffee by Carmen during their sessions. The Fluozapan. He also took her prints off her coffee cup and planted it. They also got the guy who paid him. Lisbon’s freak out was faked.

The shell company was traced back to Howard. He was trying to discredit Lisbon so that he she wouldn’t testify.
