The Mentalist Red Sky in the Morning S02E23 (CBS)

The Mentalist tells the story of Patrick Jane played by Simon Baker, a man specializing in studying the micro-expressions of people who became involved with trying to catch a serial killer named Red John. Red John killed his wife and daughter. Since then, Jane has been working with the stupidly named CBI, California Bureau of Investigations, a kind of state police.

Robin Tunney plays Agent Lisbon, who is in charge of the unit. Van Pelt is the new agent on the squad. Rigsby has a crush on her. The Mentalist is kind of like the TNT show Psych, but it’s not a comedy, it’s a drama. I’ve enjoyed this series because it’s light and interesting. I’ve kind of come to despise Criminal Minds.

Jane uses his semi-celebrity and his lack of protocol to solve cases quickly, cases in which the CBI wouldn’t be able to come up with answers without him. Each episode has the color red in its title. The Mentalist resembles the show Lie to Me, which premiered in 2009 on Fox. The Mentalist started on the 23rd of September 2008 on CBS.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Jane is on a date with Kristina. Van Pelt gets a web alert on a new Red John case. There is an attached video. Kristina is there. Jane tells Hightower that he doesn’t want to work with Kristina. She agrees. They go to Marley Sparrow’s house. A smiley face was found on her wall. Her roommate reported the murder. He tells the CSI that this wasn’t Red John. Her boyfriend is a cop from San Francisco. Her roommate didn’t meet him. They had been going out for about a month.

Her academic advisor says that Red John was mentioned in her class about 8 or 9 months. There is no Grady Ship. He named himself after a cannibal. Ship spent time at Lompoc at the same time as Orville Redenbock. Orville was Red John’s friend. While they are reviewing the case, Jane sees Kristina on the TV talking about Red John. She doesn’t see herself in any danger. Jane is livid. He asks Hightower to provide protection for Kristina.

They find an address in Sparrow’s address book. It leads them to an abandoned building. Someone has been living there. The walls are covered with Red John signatures. It’s like he was practicing. Someone fires at them and they run after him. He’s on a motorcycle and has got a big camera.

Professor Ketchum is here. She was Sparrow’s advisor. She is also the chair of the AV class. Wesley Blankfein is the only name on both lists. He’s got a dorm room, but has been missing for a few weeks.

Lisbon gets a call from Lake Tahoe. There was another Red John murder there. She was the woman who interviewed Kristina. This time, it is Red John. That’s what Jane thinks. This case is with the FBI.

Cho and Rigsby leave to investigate Blankfein’s mother. She had an SUV like the one they saw in the video. Ruth also said that Sparrow’s boyfriend drove the same kind of car. The mother is gone. They find her place filled with cats. There is a sort of Red John/Marley Sparrow altar. He was obsessed with Sparrow.

Kristina sends Jane away. She doesn’t want him around. She believes that she isn’t in any danger.

When Jane calls Kristina, they find her gone. She packed a bag and took her passport. Hightower tells the agents that the Missing Person’s team will be looking into Kristina’s disappearance. Jane thinks that she was abducted. Lisbon tells Jane to take a break. Hightower agrees, but Jane doesn’t want to. Lisbon says that he’s too hyped to go into the field. Instead of listening, Jane goes to one of the places in the photos of the Blankfein’s altar. He finds an abandoned hotel in Salinger Mill on the corner of the street where the photo was taken. Someone assaults him as soon as he enters.

Jane wakes up taped to a chair. It’s Blankfein. He’s taping something for his holy master Red John. Jane realizes that they have Blankfein’s mother. They are forcing to play his part. It’s Dylan and Ruth. They were forcing Blankfein to play Grady Ship. Ruth killed Sparrow. Someone shoots Ruth and Dylan, and then proceeds to shoot Wes in the leg.

The person’s voice is disguised. It sounds like a woman but it’s a man. Red John finishes off Ruth. He tells Jane that Kristina sends her love and leaves. He also mentioned that he couldn’t stand inferior imitations. He recited something as well.
