The Mentalist Red Gold S03E15 (CBS)

The Mentalist tells the story of Patrick Jane played by Simon Baker, a man specializing in studying the micro-expressions of people who became involved with trying to catch a serial killer named Red John. Red John killed his wife and daughter. Since then, Jane has been working with the stupidly named CBI, California Bureau of Investigations, a kind of state police.

Robin Tunney plays Agent Lisbon, who is in charge of the unit. Van Pelt is the new agent on the squad. Rigsby has a crush on her. The Mentalist is kind of like the TNT show Psych, but it’s not a comedy, it’s a drama. I’ve enjoyed this series because it’s light and interesting. I’ve kind of come to despise Criminal Minds.

Jane uses his semi-celebrity and his lack of protocol to solve cases quickly, cases in which the CBI wouldn’t be able to come up with answers without him. Each episode has the color red in its title. The Mentalist resembles the show Lie to Me, which premiered in 2009 on Fox. The Mentalist started on the 23rd of September 2008 on CBS.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

The vic is Rick Lumas. He’s been in a county for 5 months. He was shot in the head. He was a gold prospector. For some reason, Jane pretends that he sees gold in the stream to provoke a stampede. Lisbon sprains her ankle as she is pushed into the water.

The vic has been dead for 2 days. He moved to Hadley with his son and girlfriend. Jane is still in Hadley playing cards with some prospectors.

Hightower arrives in Hadley. Jane notices that Hightower might have some personal issues. They talk with the son and girlfriend. They left successful lives to come down here. Rick emptied Jeff’s college fund. Sheryl left a promising career in sales.

The girlfriend has got a separate bank account with $5K. Rick Lumas bought a Colt 45 recently. Jane goes to see Atwood who sold Rick his claim. He’s a con man.

Sheryl had booked a plane to San Francisco. She was leaving Rick.

They follow Atwood and find him firing shotgun pellets into the claim that Jane was interested in. He pellets are filled with gold. Atwood tells Cho that he should check out the guy who was robbing the miners. The Sheriff didn’t tell them this.

Lumas never filed a police report. Rigsby thinks he found the robber. His name is Scott Monroe. Van Pelt tells Hightower that her kids are at the precinct. Lisbon says that she will take care of them. Her husband dropped them off. It looks like Hightower has marital problems.

Hightower and Jane go see Monroe. They find Atwood dead in his place. Jane tells Hightower after another tense exchange that she is getting a divorce. Most of the people at the office know about this.

Rigsby and Van Pelt get Monroe. Cho and Lisbon talk with Monroe. He says that Jeff stole his father’s equipment. Hightower and Jane question Jeff. His father knew all along that Jeff took the mining equipment. It turns out that the college fund came from his grandparents. Rick tried to hide that he took the fund.

Jane thinks that Rick found a gold mine. He makes a big show of it in front of some suspects to draw them out. It’s the salesman. He killed Lumas for the gold seam. Atwood figured out that the salesman was the killer. He tried to blackmail him. That’s why he killed him. He pulls a gun. Hightower arrives to get the bad guy. She ends up shooting the dude.

Rick left the goldmine to his son and girlfriend.
