The Mentalist Red Rum S01E12 (CBS)

The Mentalist tells the story of Patrick Jane played by Simon Baker, a man specializing in studying the micro-expressions of people who became involved with trying to catch a serial killer named Red John. Red John killed his wife and daughter. Since then, Jane has been working with the stupidly named CBI, California Bureau of Investigations, a kind of state police.

Robin Tunney plays Agent Lisbon, who is in charge of the unit. Van Pelt is the new agent on the squad. Rigsby has a crush on her. The Mentalist is kind of like the USA show Psych, but it’s not a comedy, it’s a drama. I’ve enjoyed this series because it’s light and interesting. I’ve kind of come to despise Criminal Minds.

Jane uses his semi-celebrity and his lack of protocol to solve cases quickly, cases in which the CBI wouldn’t be able to come up with answers without him. Each episode has the color red in its title. The Mentalist resembles the show Lie to Me, which premiered in 2009 on Fox. The Mentalist started on the 23rd of September 2008 on CBS.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

The team is investigating a missing teen named Cody Elkins, who went missing two days ago. The local cops found one of his shoes, which had some blood on it, making it a possible homicide. Thanks to some kids and some crows, Jane knows where to find the body. Jane finds a pentacle, indicating some kind of black magic connection.

Cody went missing Friday night, after his football game, before he went to bed. When questioned about black magic, they mention Tamsend Dove, who claims to be a witch. When her cat went missing, she blamed him and put a spell on him. Cody was killed by BFT on Saturday morning.

Cody had some issues with the coach, who lost his job because he smacked a few kids around in another town. He took anger management classes. He says that Cody needed an attitude adjustment. They find a shirt with some blood spots. The warrant came through and they can go into the Tamsed Dove place. The girl is waiting for them in her kitchen. She was expecting them. She was told about what happened by the kids Jane questioned. She likes kids. She knew that the kids found the body and didn’t tell anyone. She still blames him for taking her cat. She says that he deserved to die. She put a killing spell on Cody and this was the first time that it worked.

The coach’s blood was found on Cody’s shirt. He’s brought in for questioning. He says that Cody is a nut job. He beat his friend Daniel Brown senseless for no reason. Jane, Lisbon and Cho are watching the witch incant a spell.

Tamsend says that she is being framed by someone in town. The items they found don’t really mean anything. She is to be blamed for this.

They go and get Daniel Brown, the guy who Cody put in the hospital over a game of cards. Jane does his thing with Brown. He was paid $1000 by the Elkins not to press charges. They question the parents again about Cody’s violent streak. They say that it was an isolated incident. Jane talks with Cody’s little brother. The father doesn’t want Jane talking to Brad alone. He tells him to leave.

Van Pelt and Rigsby are watching Brad. He goes to see the witch. There is a little coven of witches in side. They blindfold Brad and Tamsend brandishes a sacrificial knife on him. She doesn’t do anything to him but splash him with some water. Rigsby and Van Pelt go in and stop the ceremony.

Tamsend Dove’s real name is Sarah Jones. Brad was an apprentice of her witch’s coven for a while. His parents hate witches. A month ago, his mom threatened to kill her if she talked to Brad again. Brad has been hospitalized twice this year because of Cody. Cody hated that Brad was friends with Tamsend. I wonder why they are talking to Brad without his parents or a CPS office. The parents arrive. They say don’t understand Brad’s obsession with witchcraft. They find it disturbing and embarrassing. Jane tells them that Dove is putting a spell of revelation on the murder weapon. It will make it levitate and come to them.

They follow the dad, who tries to bury the murder weapon. He was abusing his family. Cody confronted him and hit him. Michael defended himself by beating his son with a wrench.
